Promising 3yo
DEFINE (Lonhro ex Fine Society) put the writing on the wall when an eye catching and desperately unlucky nose second to Wordplay at Warwick Farm on the 28th August.
At Warwick Farm on Wednesday she greeted the starter for just the second time and the handicapper asked her to carry the steadier of 59.0 kgs against a field of promising 3yo fillies.
Up 3.0 kgs for her effort on debut and up 200m in distance and running against strong opposition, Chris Waller waved his magic wand again and the filly showed her first start was no fluke going on to run down and then run away from her opponents.
She won the
BECOME AN ATC SPONSOR Maiden 1400m. In doing so, she picked up a first prize cheque of $23,025 + a $10,000 BOBS BONUS as well.
She recorded a time of 1:23.66 last 600m 35.01 secs carrying 59.0 kgs.
Bred to be a stayer of the future, this filly is nowhere near ready for the rigors of racing yet, except nobody has told her that. She is a light framed, tall leggy type who is going to furnish into a lovely staying type for the 3yo Autumn. What she has done so far is on pure ability. She will continue to mature and most importantly fill out and strengthen.
Her aim since we purchased her was always to have a crack at the Autumn classic races and in particular, the ATC Oaks. On what she has shown to date, she deserves to be aimed towards those races.
Chris Waller is a legend when it comes to the training ranks and especially when it comes to training these horses bred to run a trip. He had four runners in the race and produced the trifecta with Canossa in second place and All Cerise in third spot.
Chris was interviewed prior to the race by Richard Callendar and spoke highly of all his runners. He was full of praise for
DEFINE and advised pre-race that win, loose or draw she will be in the spelling paddock Thursday afternoon to get the maximum benefit of the early spring.
On debut
DEFINE was ridden by
Tim Clark who again had the ride on her at her second start. On debut the filly had no early speed and was more than 15 lengths off the leaders mid race before storming home. In this second race the plan was to try and be a little closer if possible over the slower tempo of the 1400m trip. Tim rode the filly beautifully. She jumped away on terms and rolled over to the fence before a couple crossed her to have her settled 3 pairs back with cover on the rail.
Approaching the turn, Tim angled the filly one off the fence and found the back of the stablemate All Cerise who was going forward sitting at the girth of the leader.
As they swung for home Tim angled to the outside of the stablemate and gave chase. Under the big weight it took her about half a furlong to gather momentum and when she hit top gear, she stormed past the leaders to go on and win with authority posting a margin of 1 length.
Bred to be a high quality filly, Dynamic Syndications purchased the filly from the William Inglis Melbourne Premier Sales in 2012. She was lot 541 and was grabbed for the bargain price of $80,000.
DEFINE - As a yearling at the sales
She is by a Champion Racehorse and Sire in
LONHRO from the Group 1 Winning mare
FINE SOCIETY. She won 3 races including the Canterbury Guineas 1900m and ran second in the Gosford Guineas. Bred on a proven Lonhro / Marscay cross.
Head shot of DEFINE
A late foal she was a 13 November 2010 foaling date so in fact, she is still over two months away from physically becoming a 3yo.
We congratulate the
Chris Waller Racing Stables Team for the terrific job they have done to date with the filly to get her to this point considering her late physical development.
We also congratulate the excellent ride of
Tim Clark in piloting the filly to an easy victory.
Most importantly we congratulate our wonderful team of Dynamic Owners who are enjoying the ride of a lifetime:
