Choisir (by Danehill Dancer - Great Selection) is the most consistent young sire in Australia. In fact he is the leading sire of 2yo winners in Australia in 2012/13 with 22 individual winners to date.
Overall he is the sire of 53 Career SWs including 32 from his SH crops and 103 black-type horses.
CHOISIR - Champion Sire of Individual 2yo Winners in 2012-13
CHOISIR is 1 of only 6 stallions to rank in the top 15 sires in Australia for each of the last 5 seasons (incl 2012/13): Redoute’s Choice, Encosta De Lago, More Than Ready, Commands, Testa Rossa, Choisir.
He was Champion 2-y-o colt of his year and Lightning Stakes-Gr.1 winner at 3.
STARSPANGLEDBANNER - CHOISIR'S Champion Son
In little over 2 minutes on the track Choisir put Australian thoroughbreds on the map like never before when he won the Gr.1 Golden Jubilee S. and the Gr.2 King’s Stand S. at Royal Ascot within 5 days of each other.
His leading performers include Starspangledbanner, a champion in two hemispheres, dual Gr.1 winner Sacred Choice, 2012 Gr.1 winning 2yo Choice Bro & 2013 Gr.1 winners Historian and Obviously.
Obviously is the 6th individual Gr1 winner by his sire and one of 11 individual Gr1 performers that he has produced to date. He is the 2nd Gr1 winner sired by Choisir in 2013 following the heroic effort of the rejuvenated Historian in the G1 Thorndon Mile at Trentham in January.
This pair by the sire is amongst 19, individual stakes performers sired by Choisir since January 1st of this year. These include last season’s top-class European 2yo (and Gr1 winner) Olympic Glory, high-class stallion prospect Proisir, quality fillies and mares Wowee, Royalsecuritybaby, Diamond Earth and Choice Words, as well as Gr1 2,000 Guineas runner-up Glory Awaits.
It’s remarkable to think that he has produced such a strong concentration of quality horses since the turn of the year. But it shouldn’t surprise considering he’s bred at least one Group Winner from each of his 7 Australian crops of racing age and he’s firmly established himself as a consistent source of quality racehorses in Australasia.
CHOISIR ex CARLTON SHOW (Inglis Classic Graduate)
What you want to buy when you’re looking for a 2yo runner is precociousness in a family. It’s vital that the pedigree cross has the influence in both the sire and dam that both parents had the ability to be 2yo’s. Sometimes it’s a little difficult to determine on a female line if the mare was unraced.
Such is the case in this particular filly.
The sire was a sensational 2yo and went on to be a Champion Sprinter. So we are fully aware the sire had the necessary precocity to jump and run. Then he’s gone on and produced outstanding running 2yo’s.
But what about the female family ?
HOLD THAT TIGER
In this circumstance the mare was unraced. However her sire Hold That Tiger was the Champion European 2yo of his year. He was a Group 1 Winning Champion 2yo in France, who won three times as a 2yo including French racing’s most prestigious 2yo event - Longchamp Grand Criterium, Gr.1. 1400m.
Next, the dam was a daughter of Aces Royale - a 2yo winning stakes placed mare.
The dam is a ½ sister 2yo Stakes Winner CARLTON SHOW and to 2yo winning and stakes placed CARLTON ACE – this mare produced two 2yo stakes placed winners CARLTON FORWARD and AL’S MAGIC MISS. Also the mare is a ½ sister to 2yo winners Stratumsphere and Winning Hand.
So there is every indication that the mare, on pedigree, had the genes to have been a 2yo herself.
Now add in the fact that in the immediate pedigree page there are a total of thirteen (13) individual 2yo winners.
This CHOISIR ex CARLTON SHOW filly has the pedigree to make it as a 2yo. The pedigree cross is proven to work with 18 Stakes Winners bred on the same Danehill / Storm Cat cross.
In fact, this pedigree was rated so highly that it was one of 6 equal ranking leading pedigrees in the whole Inglis Classic Catalogue. However an inspection of the others in the group revealed they in our opinion they all failed conformation evaluation.
CHRIS WALLER
Therefore it is our belief we have the best horse both on type and pedigree, to aim at the Inglis Classic Race in 2014.
To ensure we have every chance of success, we have placed the filly with Australia’s Number 1 Trainer – CHRIS WALLER.
With now 65% sold, don’t miss out on the opportunity to race a real 2yo candidate. It’s only a few weeks between the Inglis Classic and the Golden Slipper.
This filly has every opportunity to be a successful 2yo and go with it as an older horse.
