Sunday was the 5th Session of the 2016 Magic Millions, a session renowned for producing many outstanding Gr1 winning racehorses such as our own
Atomic Force who came from this session.
This is a great session for good thoroughbred judges because the hype of sessions 1-4 “fashion parade” is over but those who can identify horses can be very well rewarded.
Again on Sunday, this Session 5 reaped record figures.
The average jumped to
$61,977 ($55,101) whilst the Median jumped to
$50,000 ($40,000) and the Gross was
$12,333,500 ($9,863,000).
In the 5 days of inspections prior to the commencement of sessions 1-4, we had identified just 3 yearlings in Session 5 that we wanted to make Dynamic.
These 3 had the conformation and pedigree genetics that would allow them every opportunity to be racetrack stars.
Each of the three we identified, we believed should have been sold in the first four sessions but for various circumstances were is session 5.
We came with the game plan to buy each of these 3 yearlings to a price that we considered acceptable value and importantly, offered our owners access to the Magic Millions race series with genuine chances to be aiming at the big dollars available.
The first of our purchases on Sunday was:
LOT 778 LOPE DE VEGA x MIMES Chestnut Colt $55,000 + GST
Fantastic colt, by the boom young sire of the Northern Hemisphere whose progeny are showing great promise.
Standing at Patinack Farm on a shuttle basis to start his career, his oldest Australian progeny are 3yo’s and include 11 individual winners to date.
LOPE DE VEGA from just 157 runners, he has sired 90 individual winners, 38 placed runners, 11 Stakes Winners and 11 Stakes placed horses. He has 81.5% Winners & Placegetters : Runners ratio and 14.0% Black-Type Earners : Runners ratio.
These statistics place LOPE DE VEGA in the upper echelon of successful sires. There are only 20 Stallions at stud in Australia that have an 81.5% or higher percentage and LOPE DE VEGA is in this category which headed by Redoute’s Choice with 89.1%.
The other most telling statistic is sires that can produce 10% or higher Black Type earners to runners.
In this elite category LOPE DE VEGA is sitting in 11th position with 14.0% which is amazing for a young sire.
There were only 2 yearlings by the sire in sessions 1-4 and they sold for $150,000 and $200,000 and in our opinion, lacked the both the type and genetic pedigree that this colt has. There is little doubt in our mind, had the colt been sold in sessions 1-4 he would have been selling higher than those yearlings.
Our colt is from the mare
MIMES (by Desert King). This is a family we know well at Dynamic. It’s the speed family that produced us
REWARD FOR EFFORT. In addition it produced Gai’s Golden Slipper Winner
OVERREACH.
MIMES was a winner at 1000m. She is a ¾ sister to SW
CHUCKLE and to the dam of SW
LADY ROYALE.
MIMES has had 5 progeny to race – 5 Winners. We have previously purchased a sibling named
SALTATOR who was a winner at 1100m and she is now the dam of a promising 3yo with Randwick Trainer John Thompson.
This BOBS eligible colt is bred on an
A+ 1,476% Q5 rating and with a 21 September foaling date has every opportunity to become a racetrack success.
Our second purchase on Sunday was the colt we had been waiting for all sale.
LOT 822 HINCHINBROOK x RAIN SPECIAL was a spectacular Brown Colt who on type and pedigree appears to be a running machine.
Hinchinbrook’s oldest are just 3yo’s and he is sitting alongside
REWARD FOR EFFORT at the top of the second season sires list. His progeny are speed horses and he already has the Gr1 winning
PRESS STATEMENT on his resume.
Our colt’s Dam
RAIN SPECIAL (by Galileo) won 4 races from 1350m to 1900m, $102,120 inc ATC Rocket Man H., ATC Rose Bay H., STC Members H.
Our Colt’s 2nd Dam is SPECIAL TEST (by Octagonal). She is a Full Sister to I Believe (Dam of RAIN AFFAIR) and half-sister to SW WALK ALONE.
Our BOBS Eligible colt is bred on a magnificent genetic rating of
A+++ Q7 which genetically made him one of the top colts in the sale.
Our saleyard notes on this colt were very simple –
a big Tick and the comment “BUY IT”.
We secured him on a bid of
$60,000 + GST.
Our Final purchase at the Magic Millions Sale of 2016 was a fabulous filly from a family that has been very good to us over many years and this yearling suggests the run will continue.
LOT 867 FOXWEDGE x UNDERCOVER Chestnut Filly
This is the family of POLAR SUCCESS – our Golden Slipper Winner !
FOXWEDGE (Fastnet Rock’s highest ever rated son) is a highly promising first crop sire already with a Sydney winner and a stakes placed filly from just a handful of progeny to race.
UNDERCOVER (by Covetous) won 3 races -2 at 2- to 1200m and ran 4th in the 2yo VRC Ottawa Stakes LR.
UNDERCOVER is the ¾ sister to PATOU – Dam of POLAR SUCCESS), a ½ sister to SW AIN’T SEEN NOTHIN’ (dam of BACHMAN, AIN’TNOFALLENSTAR, STEPITUP).
UNDERCOVER is doing the job as a broodmare with 7 foals to race – 6 winners inc Gibraltar Moon (5 wins), Elusive Light (4 wins) Beguile (2 wins), Rockwell (4 wins), Lattam (2 wins) and Kickback Johnny.
This
BOBS Eligible filly has racing and excellent breeding prospects. We secured the filly to a winning bid of
$50,000 + GST.
Further information about these yearlings will be provided in coming days.
