Dynamic David Payne is one of the true gentlemen of the turf and the team at Dynamic Syndications were delighted to see one of our favourite trainers take out the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas on Saturday.
A race that Dynamic Syndications boss Dean Watt has won twice previously with He’s No Pie Eater and De Beers, the 2014 edition of the race looked supremely competitive on paper.
A Group 2 Winner as a 2yo over 1200m the David Payne trained Criterion had put the writing on the wall during the Spring that he was a serious staying in prospect in the making, a fast finishing second to Complacent in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes over 2000m at Randwick saw the son of Sebring take place in the Victoria Derby finishing a luckless 4th behind Polanski and Complacent.
Criterion was subsequently sent for a spell to be aimed at the rich 3yo staying features during the Autumn Carnival and the David Payne trained galloper put the writing on the wall for a big campaign ahead with a blistering second to Cox Plate hero Shamus Award in the Australian Guineas.
Ridden to perfection by Hugh Bowman the chestnut colt jumped from barrier 12 in the 15 horse field and incredibly found himself on the fence by the time the field had entered the back straight. Hugh did not go around a single runner from this point onwards, he continually improved his position along the rail and approaching the turn found himself on the back of the leaders. Hughie saved all the ground and cut the corner before angling to the centre of the track at the 300m pole before shooting 4 lengths clear of the field at the furlong to race away and win eased down.
David Payne has trained over 100 Group 1 winners around the world and is renowned for his kind and patient training techniques.
