For the sixth consecutive year the
Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale has risen to new heights continuing the momentum from
a record Inglis Classic Sale held in Sydney last month.
The Inglis Premier average increased 16% from last year to a record $97,003 while the median is up 23% to a record $80,000 and gross up 19% to a record $44,507,500.
The clearance rate currently sits at 82% which is expected to improve after passed-in lots are sold and processed in the ensuing days.
“We are ecstatic that the strength of the sale has continued throughout the entirety of the three days of Session I” said Inglis Victorian Director Peter Heagney.
“As Melbourne’s principal yearling sale, these positive results are indicative of the progressive nature of the Victorian industry as a whole“ Heagney said.
International support was also strong with overseas buyers spending over $10,000,000 on 90 Lots.
45 Lots sold for $200,000 or more since Sunday which is a significant jump from 24 sold in Session I last year.
First season sires have been particularly popular in Melbourne.
Foxwedge continues to dominate the first season average with $161,364 for 11 Lots. Sepoy averaged $144,000, Smart Missile averaged $120,543, So You Think averaged $107,500, Helmet averaged $99,456 and New Zealand’s boom first crop sire Cape Blanco averaged $95,000.
Fastnet Rock leads the sires by average (3 or more sold) with $187,083 across 12 yearlings, followed by Street Cry, Redoute’s Choice and Northern Meteor.
Again we were the leading Syndication Company at the sale.
Dynamic Syndications purchased 5 lots for a Gross of $460,000, Average $92,000, Median $100,000 and a Top Price of $105,000.
We purchased 4 fillies by MORE THAN READY ($100,000), MEDAGLIA D’ORO ($105,000), REWARD FOR EFFORT ($70,000) and CAPE BLANCO ($85,000) whilst our 1 colt was a son of SNITZEL ($100,000).
Sire Averages
Snitzel 21 lots grossed $2,785,000, Average $132,619 Median $100,000.
More Than Ready 6 lots grossed $590,000, Average $118,000, Median $100,000
Cape Blanco 3 lots grossed $285,000, Average $95,000, Median $90,000
Medaglia d'Oro 5 lots grossed $385,000, Average $77,000, Median $70,000
Reward for Effort 11 lots grossed $638,000, Average $58,000, Median $60,000.
It is interesting to see how the market is also fighting over the progeny of
boom First Crop Sire FOXWEDGE. He has certainly forged well ahead of his peer Smart Missile in the race to be the leading first crop sire on averages.
At this sale
Foxwedge stats were:
Foxwedge 11 Sold, Grossed $1,775,000, Average $161,364, Median $170,000, Top Price $420,000.
We are delighted we swooped early in the year on this in demand sire and purchased 2 stunners at the Magic Millions before the prices went crazy on the sire’s progeny.
