Our veterinarian Dr. John Walker and our independent bloodstock consultant Gary Mudgway both thought the colt was a colt that had a marvellous frame to him and would furnish out into a magnificent, big and strong type. Johnny Walker reported the colt and his x-rays were fine.
We believed we would be in the hunt on the colt but the way the sale had been flowing it would be hard to believe we would get the colt for under $200,000.
However he was a foal share and they must be sold unreserved in the sale ring. We held the bid at $150,000 for a long while before a counter was made of $5,000 just as the gavel was ready to drop. We countered with another $5,000 bid which went unanswered and the hammer dropped to our bid of
$160,000. This represented incredible value.
On the recommendation of our veterinarian and bloodstock consultant both suggested we leave the colt in New Zealand for another 3-4 months before bringing him home to Australia. That way he can continue to grow and furnish in the lush pastures before coming to Australia when the weather cools ahead of the Kiwi winter. We have elected to take that advice.
Details of his trainer and release date for syndication and share pricing will be released shortly.
