Veteran jockey
Jeff Lloyd confirmed his rating as the jockey to beat in this season's Brisbane premiership with four winners but none was more impressive than that of
Dynamic Syndications handy galloper
PERPLEXITY which saluted in race 2 on Saturday’s Doomben programme the Tox Free Handicap (2000m).
PERPLEXITY wins his 7th Race at DOOMBEN on Saturday 24-10-15 ridden by Jeff Lloyd.
It was a remarkable day for
new trainer Chris Munce and Dynamic Syndications boss Dean Watt because it was 11 years earlier,
the pair joined forces to win the COX PLATE with then 3yo and now Champion NZ Sire SAVABEEL steered home by Chris.
Whilst the 2000m Handicap at Doomben wasn’t the COX PLATE, the thrill was still evident for Trainer, Team Dynamic and our loyal team of OWNERS that race PERPLEXITY.
Prior to the race
PERPLEXITY had been working well leading into the event however connections were concerned that 5 runs deep into his preparation,
PERPLEXITY would be suited by a longer trip than the 2000m around the tight turning, short straight of Doomben.
Trainer Chris Munce had been ruing in the press for the past week, the lack of distance races in Brisbane for
Perplexity and this race being over the 2000 metres was our only concern because we believe our horse was looking for further ground.
At his most recent run,
PERPLEXITY went via the cape after the saddle shifted however having reviewed the speed map for this event, we felt he should get a gun run from the inside barrier.
With
Jeff Lloyd back on top for this race and if he can get him out of the barriers and firing early enough, we felt he could take a nice position and with some mid race pressure by going forward earlier than normally expected he can put himself into the race.
PERPLEXITY & Jeff Lloyd in control at the 100m
Trainer Chris Munce told
Jeff Lloyd to make it a genuine staying test and it paid off when
Perplexity scored a solid win.
After
Jeff Lloyd hopped Perplexity out of the inside gate and then angled off the fence to sit in the one-out position ensuring
Perplexity could let go when required, without being cluttered up behind other runners. This move alone would have been good enough to win however Jeff Lloyd with Chris Munce’s words still ringing loud in his ears, made a move earlier than the rest of the jockeys expected.
After a muddling early pace which saw four different leaders,
Jeff Lloyd followed instructions and took off mid-race on Perplexity who went to the front mid race and dictated terms for the rest of the race. This mid-race surge to take the lead down the back straight, had him take the race by the horns.
PERPLEXITY rolls to the line under hands and heels to win
As the field swung for home Jeff asked
Perplexity for an effort and the pair stole a 2 length break. He then outstayed those chasing him to beat second favourite Highly Gentle by 1-1/4
Jeff Lloyd had just steered PERPLEXITY home for his seventh (7th) race win of his career.

Since moving up from Sydney up to Brisbane PERPLEXITY has enjoyed the change in venue and so have the owners. He first started in Brisbane for Team Dynamic on the 14th February 2015.
