Darren Smith had another good Newcastle Cup Carnival
Darren Smith and Chris Waller have both produced two winners over the two day Newcastle Gold Cup Carnival.
Darren Smith has always performed well at his home track having won the Max Lees medal for best strike rate at the Broadmeadow track on three separate occasions.
The last two days was no different with Darren’s first winner coming in race 8 on Wednesday when Dynamic Syndications galloper, Savage Blaze got the better of his rivals and won aided by a great ride from Nash Rawiller.
It was impressive effort from the Savabeel stayer who managed to hit the line better than anything to beat home Planet Purple who both gapped the rest of the field.
It was a just reward for this honest stayer who has now improved his record to 32 starts for five victories and six placings after Wednesday’s win.
Darren's second winner came on Thursday in the Provincial Spring Cup with improving Fastnet Rock galloper, Net Worth.

Provincial Spring Cup
Net Worth just managed to get his nose down on the line and win the bob after a lovely run in transit.
This makes it two years in a row that Darren has won the $45,000 feature after Midnight at Ascot donned the Dynamic silks and won the race last year under the guidance of Tommy Berry.
This win capped off a successful couple of days for the Darren Smith camp as he looks to retain the Max Lees medal again this year and challenge for the Newcastle Training Premiership.
With these two victories Darren now has four wins to go with three seconds at the Broadmeadow track for the year which makes him the highest placed local based trainer.
Chris Waller also had a good two days managing to produce a double on the Thursday including a win in the LR Tibbie Stakes with Nocturnelle.
The Elusive Quality mare is building an imposing record at the track after her fifth victory yesterday and first in Stakes Company coming at only her 11th start.
Chris has been in red hot form in the first month and a half of the 2012/13 season and his winning double yesterday further extended his lead in the Australia wide trainer’s premiership.
With the wins of Nocturnelle and Heart Testa yesterday, Chris now sits on 40.5 wins overall for the season in under two and a half months of racing.
Chris Waller just keeps producing winners
At this rate, Chris is on track to breeze past his previous record of 172.5 winners set last year which placed him 4th in Australia and affirmed his position as NSW leading trainer.
The Newcastle Cup carnival was aided by the news that an $11m upgrade of the track at Broadmeadow will commence shortly including construction of a new inner track and redevelopment of the course proper.
This announcement will help the carnival to expand in coming years and also assist in the growth of Newcastle Racing on a whole.
We congratulate the Newcastle Jockey Club on yet another wonderful carnival and Dynamic trainers Darren Smith and Chris Waller for yet again doing the job on the track.
