The Peter Moody trained Northern Meteor x Comedy Club filly REPARTEE proved she is a filly of serious promise when winning on debut yesterday at Ballarat. The well educated 2yo filly came from just off the pace to run down her rivals in the heavy 9 conditions scoring a comfortable three quarters of a length victory.
This was Dynamic Syndications first 2yo runner for the season and it is most rewarding to have her salute in impressive fashion. It is our philosophy to let the babies mature into their frame naturally and they are not pushed through the system until physically / mentally ready. The owners have all been patient and she looks to have the makings of a very nice racehorse.
Repartee jumped away smartly from barrier 3 and showed her customary early gate speed, which has been evident in her barrier trials and jump outs. Premier jockey Luke Nolen elected to let the early speed battle unfold in front of him and took hold allowing Repartee to find her feet one out one back.
Approaching the turn Luke peeled Repartee out three deep and she traveled into the race under a nice hold. However, prior to straightening up Repartee speared out on the point of the turn after receiving an almighty bump from the eventual runner up. She appeared to momentarily lose her balance and confidence in the slippery conditions, Luke though showed all the poise and experience of Victoria’s Premier Jockey allowing Repartee to find her balance and rhythm before asking the filly for a supreme effort.
Approaching the 300m pole Repartee was battling away in 5th position still a couple of length off the leading pair, at this point jockey Luke Nolen pulled his whip into the right hand and gave the filly a couple of cracks down her flank. Repartee picked up the bit and started to charge to the line, it was a three horse war for the majority of the straight before Repartee exploded past her rivals in the final 50m to score an impressive debut victory by ¾ of a length in decisive fashion.
Repartee as a Yearling.
The Peter Moody stable have always had a high opinion of our daughter of boom first season sire Northern Meteor, Repartee is from the winning Perugino mare Comedy Club. She has produced three named foals two of which are now winners and the other a multiple city placed galloper. Comedy Club is a daughter of Live Comedy a Rory’s Jester mare whom is a three-quarter-sister to Catnipped and Miss Prospect.
Miss Prospect was a highly talented stakes-winning mare of 6 races but is most notably renowned for being the Dam of our Group 1 winner Reward For Effort. After purchasing this filly from astute breeders Rheinwood stud farm we were hopeful that lightning can strike twice.
Jockey Luke Nolen reported after the victory yesterday that Repartee was never comfortable in the heavy conditions at Ballarat, it was simply her raw ability that enabled her to prevail yesterday. The stable and her owners are now extremely excited about the prospect of stepping onto a firmer footing at her next start.
Congratulations to all involved:
