A continual source of High Quality racehorses and a stallion that is constantly in the Top Sires in the Southern Hemisphere, multiple times Champion sire
ENCOSTA DE LAGO added to his Stakes Winners tally over the weekend when his daughter
COSTA VIVA won the Ray Coupland Stakes LR in New Zealand.
ENCOSTA DE LAGO - The Sire
COSTA VIVA (ex Vivacious Spirit) became ENCOSTA DE LAGO’S
96th Individual Stakes Winner and recorded the sire’s
214th Stakes Race victory.
There is little doubt that another stakes win eluded the sire on the weekend when SAINT ENCOSTA was an inch second in the Tatt’s Club Cup at Randwick and despite a protest, he missed the verdict. Also, nobody missed the run of RIVA DE LAGO who is still looking for a way out and clear running in race 7 at Randwick.
ENCOSTA DE LAGO also has a total of of Stakes Placed runners he has produced at
103, who between them have recorded
447 Stakes Race placings.
So far,
ENCOSTA DE LAGO from 1,398 starters has produced
944 individual winners of
2,922 races,
191 individual placed horses and a further
99 that are unplaced but have earned prizemoney.
That represents
67.5% Runners: Winners and
88.3% of his starters have earned prizemoney.
With
96 Stakes Winners (6.9%) and
103 Stakes Placed (7.4%) these
199 individual horses have recorded
661 Black Type race results.
Further, that represents a total of 199 Stakes Horses (14.3% Runners : Black Type performers) which is an outstanding record..
That converted back means the sire produces a 1 Black Type horse 1 out of every 6.99 horses to race !
ENCOSTA DE LAGO is closing in on some remarkable milestones for a stallion that place him in elite company as a sire. These include:
a) Approaching 100 Individual Stakes Winners
b) Approaching 200 Individual Stakes Performers (Winners & Placegetters)
c) Approaching 700 Black Type Results (Wins & Placings)
d) Approaching 1,000 Individual Winners
e) Approaching 3,000 Total Race Wins
Statistics highlight the outstanding results this stallion is achieving. The odds are stacked heavily in our favour when we race progeny of
ENCOSTA DE LAGO.
Currently for the 2013-14 Racing Season in Australia,
ENCOSTA DE LAGO is in 9th position on the General Sires Premiership for individual winners with 33. The table is:
Exceed And Excel 51, Fastnet Rock 50, Bel Esprit 43, Lonhro 42, Choisir 39, Stratum 37, Testa Rossa 35, Commands 34, Encosta De Lago 33, More Than Ready 33.
One area the sire is making great inroads with is the Broodmare Sires Premiership, where
ENCOSTA DE LAGO is currently in 5th position because his daughters are doing a fabulous job at stud.
The Top 5 Broodmare Sires are: Danehill, Zabeel, Rory’s Jester, Canny Lad, Encosta De Lago. They are followed by Flying Spur, Royal Academy, Snippets, Strategic and Last Tycoon.
Over the past 5 years,
ENCOSTA DE LAGO has been doing a fabulous job consistently producing the results. For Example:
2010 = 183 Winners 14 SW & 26 SP
2011 = 197 Winners 18 SW & 19 SP
2012 = 176 Winners 14 SW & 21 SP
2013 = 173 Winners 5 SW & 21 SP
Whilst this current season 2013-2014 = 40 Winners 2 SW & 4 SP
COOLMORE STUD has been a great home for the sire, allowing him to maximise his abilities by offering commercial and genetically balanced pedigree mares and these matings have resulted in many of his great successes.
When buying yearlings by Encosta De Lago, if they are out of Coolmore Stud mares the strike rate of Winners and Stakes Winners is increased dramatically.
Whilst Exceed And Excel and Fastnet Rock are the new force in the breeding industry, Encosta De Lago is keeping them honest all the way. The previously mentioned two stallions are now getting far bigger books of young high quality mares and therefore through weight of numbers, their positions are ensured. There is no coincidence why Dynamic Syndications purchased yearlings by both these sires in 2013. However give me an Encosta De Lago any day because as the statistics show above, they are winners.
It’s his middle distance horses where
ENCOSTA DE LAGO is so dominant on the racetrack. From 1600m + the stallion appears to have a stranglehold on this area and that’s where the big bucks are found. A massive 55 of his 96 Stakes Winners have won at 1600m and further.
Add the stallion’s dominance over his progeny to a magical female pedigree which is proven to balance genetically and a proven source of black type results on the cross, this is a huge head start. Then add in an individual with exceptionally good conformation and compliment it all with the best trainer in Australia of middle distance horses in
CHRIS WALLER, we are on a proven winning formula.
That’s the exact way our
ENCOSTA DE LAGO / FUSAICHI ROSE 2yo Filly has been bred and raised by Coolmore Stud.
Our clients deserve the best. That’s why we retained the filly until the end of the year to offer her for sale. We wanted to finish the year with a bang and to ensure we had an outstanding individual to offer over the Spring Carnival !
