2yo Exceed and Excel Colt Buratino proved a different class to his rivals in the Investec Woodcote Stakes for trainer Mark Johnston and jockey William Buick.
Already a winner at Chelmsford and Newmarket, the son of Exceed And Excel was a 2-1 favourite for the Listed contest having chased home King Of Rooks in last month's National Stakes at Sandown.
Buick kept things simple on the market leader, giving him clear daylight on the outside of the field, and he arrived on the scene still full of running with two furlongs to run.
Buratino quickly swept to the front and continued to pour it on all the way to the line, eventually passing the post with six lengths in hand over Nelspruit.
Buick said: "I rode him at Sandown in the National and he wasn't the best away from the gates, which was a worry today as it's a fast six (furlongs).
"He gave me a real good feel, he came from behind off a slow pace and was by far the best horse in the race.
"He's won very well, but the feel he gave me was very good, so I'm very pleased with him."
Johnston said: "Sometimes he's shown sparkling form, both at home and on the course, and sometimes he's a bit laid back and not quite so impressive.
"William said today he was the real deal, a lot better than at Sandown.
"We'll have to discuss plans, but possibly we'll stay at six (furlongs) now as he has this tendency to be a little bit slow into his stride, but he recovers so well."
Sky Bet cut Buratino to 8/1 from 25s for the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot following his win.
"On that run we will take him to Ascot for the Coventry, although we looked at the Norfolk before. I think he is better over six furlongs," said Johnston.
Buratino became Exceed and Excel’s 99th Individual Stakes-Winner, it has been another astonishing season for the Champion Stallion he is now sire of 14 individual Stakes winners this year, including Saturday’s G2 Queensland Guineas winner Jabali.
Last month he took his tally of G1 winners into double figures when Flamberge landed the Darley Goodwood Handicap.
