Bookmakers are bracing for a wave of support for
European star AROD after confirmation he is
a certain Cox Plate contender.

Racing Victoria international scout Leigh Jordon said
AROD would remain in quarantine in England and is scheduled
to arrive in Melbourne on October 10.
AROD had been considered for a race at Longchamp on Sunday but horses are not allowed to leave quarantine in the UK unless there are serious injury or illness issues.
Jordon said David Redvers, racing manager for
AROD owner Qatar Bloodstock, confirmed the lightly raced five-year-old would
definitely target the Cox Plate.
“It’s full steam ahead,” Jordon said. “The message from David Redvers is that
AROD is definitely coming.”
AROD, winner of four of his 11 starts, is currently fourth favourite for the Cox Plate at $10 behind
Kermadec ($4.60), Fawkner ($7) and Highland Reel ($9).
TAB spokesman Adam Hamilton expects
AROD to shorten significantly as he attempts to emulate the hit-and-run raid of Aidan O’Brien’s Adelaide last year.
“He’s such an exciting horse and Adelaide has paved the way for internationals in the Cox Plate,” Hamilton said.
