Dynamic boss Dean Watt has been a wrap for young
Coolmore Stud based sire
UNCLE MO since he saw the colt in the flesh at the
2010 Breeder’s Cup meeting held at Churchill Downs.
The then 2yo, was a magnificent individual who smashed his rivals winning the
Breeders’ Cup Juvenile-Gr.1 over 1700m, by 4¼ lengths.
That run recorded a Beyer figure (rating) of 108 –
the highest of any 2yo in 2010.
Dean had no doubt that he had witnessed a future star and his assessment was correct.
Uncle Mo turned into a phenomenal racehorse. The dominant colt of his generation at both 2 and 3.
An unbeaten 2yo, winning all 3 of his starts (including 2 x Gr1’s) by a combined margin of 23 lengths.
He broke his maiden on debut by over 14 lengths over 1200m before
Dean witnessed his second start, which he won in breath-taking fashion and was the first of a pair of Gr1 events on route to his Eclipse Award for Champion 2yo.
Uncle Mo gives his rivals a cold as he zips past to win the Gr1 Breeders Cup Juvenile
A dual Gr1 winning 2yo, importantly he earned the same
Timeform rating (127) as a 2yo, as did Australia’s own wonder horse
Pierro.
A gifted and sizzlingly fast 3yo, he’s likely to be at very short odds to be the
Champion 1st Season Sire in the US in 2015.
Uncle Mo confirmed himself as
the very best of his generation by earning a
Beyer Speed Figure of 118 as a 3yo.
He was a horse capable of producing brilliant raw speed and sustaining it relentlessly.
This is the perfect type of horse / sire that will suit Australian conditions.
Most excitingly for
Coolmore, those same qualities that saw
Uncle Mo achieve dominance on the racecourse are now very much in evidence in his first crop yearlings.
From what Dean has seen recently, his
foals are stamped like him. They are big, strong and mature horses. They look like they will go fast and early, just like he did.
The
Uncle Mo foals averaged in excess of $50,000 (12 sold) at the
Select Weanling sales in Australia recently with a top price of $120,000 and further prices of $95,000, $80,000 etc.
His first crop will be yearlings in Australia in 2015, so it’s worth noting the early hype on
Coolmore Stud’s UNCLE MO, has been huge in the USA on his US-bred yearlings.
He’s had
84 yearlings sell off an economical $27,500 US Service Fee for a strong average of
$119,250 (4.34 times Service Fee) with a top-price of $550,000 and 16 of his progeny having made $200,000 or more.
UNCLE MO at Stud
He has easily been the most popular first-season sire at the yearling sales in the US this season and he’s at short odds to become champion first-crop sire in America in 2015.
Uncle Mo was a world-class racehorse with the speed profile that appeals to the marketplace in Australia.
Uncle Mo’s first Australian-breds are yearlings of the current season and include siblings to the likes of Fastnet Rock, Stratum, Delzao, Drago, Electric Fusion, Pillar Of Hercules and Money Rocks.
Is he the ‘sleeper’ every astute buyer hopes to identify before the price goes up?
We think so!
