Exceed and Excel is the hottest Sire in the world at present with the stallion producing 10 Individual Stakes-Winners thus far in 2013, highlighted by the brilliant performances of his Golden Slipper Favourite daughter in Overreach.
Exceed And Excel
Interestingly Exceed and Excels only sprinting Group 1 winner is Dynamic Syndications own Reward For Effort who is a ¾ Brother to the Golden Slipper favourite in Overreach. Can lighting strike the same family twice?
REWARD FOR EFFORT
Exceed and Excel has enjoyed a stellar season with his 2yo racing crop and currently sits second on the earnings table only $171,390 behind Real Saga who can thank Real Surreal for contributing 89% of the prizemoney towards his stakes earning tally by snagging the Magic Millions.
Exceed and Excel has the opportunity to surpass Real Saga this weekend when his two promising youngsters Itameri and Sidestep line up in the G2 Magic Night Stakes and the G2 Pago Pago Stakes respectively. Both juveniles are current pre post second favourite and favourite respectively for their events and will also be out to try and ensure their start in the world’s richest 2yo race the Golden Slipper.
Itameri is coming off a 6 length trial victory at Warwick Farm on the 15th of March to suggest she has come back much bigger and stronger this preparation. With only $21,000 in prizemoney earnings thus far, the filly will need to win on Saturday to secure a start in the world’s richest juvenile race, her early backing from $5.5 into $4.6 clearly shows that the punters certainly think she can run a big race and force her way into the Golden Slipper where she is a current $51 chance.
Sidestep on the other hand has the luxury of being able to finish in the first two to assure his place in the great race next weekend. The colt was unlucky last Saturday when he dumped the jockey shortly after the start to go around in the race riderless, connections must have been hurting even further after the event as Criterion who had narrowly beaten Sidestep in the Black Opal stakes two weeks earlier went on to win the race in barnstorming fashion. Sidestep is a current $26 chance in the Golden Slipper and looks a good prospect of making the final field this weekend.
If the results go both Itameri and Sidesteps way on Saturday their sire Exceed and Excel will be able to boast having 5 runners - more than 30% of the Golden Slipper field for 2013. Naturally he is already represented by the short priced favourite Overreach, whilst he also has high quality performers Guelph and Kuroshio safely confirmed for the race.
