Darley Stud’s previous Australian champion 1st-season sire and current three time champion sire of 2yo’s EXCEED AND EXCEL (Danehill-Patrona, by Lomond) celebrated yet another Gr1 triumph when the Coolmore Stud owned 4yo entire EXCELEBRATION (Exceed And Excel-Sun Shower, by Indian Ridge) scored a decisive 1.25-lengths win for Coolmore’s trainer Aidan O'Brien defeating Cityscape & Elusive Kate in the €600,000 Gr1 Prix Jacques le Marois (1600m) for 3yo’s and up at Deauville.
EXCELEBRATION wins his second Gr1 race
Winner of last year's Gr1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp & runner-up behind Frankel in his last 2 starts, Excelebration was originally purchased for just €15,000 weanling at Ireland's 2008 Goffs November Sale & subsequently a £20,000 yearling at the UK 2009 Doncaster Bloodstock August Sale.
He took his record to 7 wins & 5 placings from 13 starts.
Excelebration has now qualified for the Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Mile regarded as the World’s Championship mile. He has become the 4th horse to qualify for the USD $2million event to be run on November 3 at Santa Anita via the Breeders' Cup Challenge series. The Breeders' Cup Challenge is a global series of 73 stakes-races whose winners earn automatic starting positions into the Breeders' Cup World Championships. Breeders' Cup will pay the US$60,000 entry fee and provide the winning connections a US$20,000 travel allowance for Excelebration to start in the Championships.
Excelebration joins Gimmethegreenlight (AUS), More Joyous (NZ) and Jeranimo as the first three automatic qualifiers for the Mile this year. On five previous occasions, the winner of the Gr1 Prix Jacques Le Marois has gone on to win the Breeders' Cup Mile: Miesque (1987, 1988) Spinning World (1997) Six Perfections (2003) and Goldikova (2009).
