It’s always great to see an old timer come out and win at the top level. On Saturday 1st December at Warwick Farm, that is exactly what happened when 9yo gelding FIUMICINO won in impressive fashion. Fiumicino has suffered injuries several times throughout his long career and had a prolonged absence from racing following a racing mishap in the 2009 Melbourne Cup. After a break of 27 months, he returned to racing in February 2012 and having run several good races since then, on the weekend was rewarded with victory in the ATC Frank Underwood Cup LR over 2200m.
Fiumicino has now cracked the $3 million barrier
A dual Gr1 winner of the 2007 AJC Australian Derby and 2009 BMW, Fiumicino with Nash Rawiller in the saddle, made all the running to prove too classy for King Utah and Moriarty. Fiumicino has been a consistent and honest as any horse can be, having performed at the top level for his whole career. He is still producing the goods on track when most horses would have hung up their horse shoes. With Saturday’s Listed Race victory, the magnificently bred individual improves his overall record to 6 wins and 6 placings from 39 starts for earnings of now over $3 million.
Originally selected for purchase by our own contracted veterinarian Dr. Tim Roberts on behalf of his client Nick Moratis, he was a $425,000 purchase from the Cambridge Stud draft at the 2005 NZ Bloodstock Premier Yearling sale at Karaka. Fiumicino is a son of the great Cambridge stallion Zabeel out of the mare Latte by Maroof (a son of Danzig by Northern Dancer).
9yo, Fiumicino is extremely well bred and is continuing to win races
Latte is a half-sister to the Champion racemare HORLICKS - a winner of 17 races including 6 Gr1 events including the Mackinnon Stakes and the Japan Cup. HORLICKS is the dam of BREW – 7 wins including the Melbourne Cup Gr1 and Saab Q., Gr2 and BUBBLE – 4 wins including the Avondale Guineas Gr2.
Brew is from the same family as Fiumicino and a previous Melbourne Cup winner
Fiumicino, now a 9yo, still clearly has a zest for racing and showed he has plenty left to give to the racing world. This is an incredible performance from a horse that directly descends from one of the most influential female pedigrees in the Southern Hemisphere.
This proved another excellent result for Dynamic Syndications as Fiumicino is a very close relation to our own Encosta De Lago – Petta Gaye colt which we are currently syndicating out of the NZ Ready To Run Sale.
Our ENCOSTA DE LAGO colt is out of the Danehill mare, PETTA GAYE. She is a daughter of immortal sire Danehill.
Our ENCOSTA DE LAGO - PETTA GAYE colt
PETTA GAYE has had five foals to race for four winners and 1 placed. The wraps are big on our impressive colt and we anticipate seeing her fifth winner on the track in a matter of months.
Here at Dynamic Syndications, we understand that breeding plays a key factor to securing a class racehorses. We constantly put in the hard yards and long hours to give our clients the best chance of winning the big races. That’s been shown by the fact Dean Watt has syndicated 10 individual Group 1 Winners of 13 Group 1 races. This colt is a perfect example and we are now giving you the opportunity to join our successful team.
Firstly we recognised that this colt was rated an A + + +, the highest possible rating score any horse can achieve. We understood that he is a full brother to 4 of the mare’s 5 foals to race, and the cross has produced 3 of the 4 winners and the 1 placed. CHULA VISTA, CHAMPAGNE DAYS and WITTENOOM WAY are the winners with Cheerine Sun placing 5 times as a 3yo whilst IT'S WINE O'CLOCK a winner of 3 races, was by Fusaichi Pegasus.
Our colt’s dam PETTA GAYE is the 1/2 sister to Champion mare HORLICKS 17 wins (6 Gr1 wins). HORLICKS is the dam of Champion Stayer BREW (Melbourne Cup) and SW BUBBLE. Also she has produced daughters that are the dams of Gr2 winners SOLO FLYER, MY TUSKER and SP Platinum Passion as well Dual Gr1 winner FIUMICINO.
HORLICKS also has a 1/2 sister which is the dam of the international Derby Winner THE EMBASSY – MR AMBASSADOR - the winner of 8 races including the AJC Randwick City Stakes Gr3 and the Perak Derby.
Horlicks winning the Japan Cup
By Champion Encosta De Lago, the sire of 93 stakes winners (including 20 Gr1 Winners), this is an outstanding family saturated with black type.
Typical of the family and just like Fiumicino, our colt is bred to get over ground and we expect to see him develop into a lovely classics type 3yo to aim at Guineas and Derbies and then Cups as an older horse. However as a 2yo, he will be aimed at the Champagne Stakes Gr1 1600m and the TJ Smith Classic Gr1 1600m.
Every member of the Dynamic Team gave this Encosta De Lago colt the tick of approval. Recently he was sent over to New Zealand to take part in the Ready to Run sales. We never had any intention of selling him. Despite receiving offers of NZ$220,000 at auction, we had made a decision long before the sale, to bring the horses back to Australia for syndication under our own Dynamic banner. This Ready To Run process was used by the team at Dynamic to show the general public just how good our colt is and more importantly, how good he is going to be.
He was particularly impressive breezing up in a slick time of 10.67s over the 200m journey at Te Rapa in Karaka. Our colt recorded a significantly better time than the average breeze up time of 10.85s. This is extremely impressive because he is bred to be a middle distance / staying type prospect. The time of 10.67s bettered the times recorded by the majority of the well-bred sprinters at the sale.
If at this point of his career, he is recording sectionals that better well-bred sprinters, imagine what could be when he goes into full time work with Sydney’s best trainer, Chris Waller who has an affinity with stayers. Dynamic Managing Director Dean Watt purchased this colt with the aim to win a Derby and the early signs from the breeze ups are obviously extremely encouraging.
Horses, like Horlicks, Brew, Fiumicino, with their longevity to race at the top level over many years are becoming increasingly difficult to come by however our colt is a great prospect. He has already shown us that he can run and looks to be a genuine stakes class galloper. He is from a family that has a plethora of stakes winners from one of the best female pedigrees in the Southern Hemisphere. He is extremely well put together and will be trained by Sydney’s leading trainer, Chris Waller.
Fiumicino has been a classy racehorse his whole career and this colt could follow in the footsteps of his close relations. Both Dynamic and Chris Waller are eagerly awaiting the arrival of this cracking colt to Chris’ Rosehill based stable. We anticipate it will not be too long before we get to see this athletic individual in the winner’s circle and you have the opportunity to join the Dynamic team for the ride.
With full endorsement by his trainer Chris Waller to potential owners get in quick as share will not last long in this impressive colt.
