Coolmore's multiple Gr1-winning Australian-bred stallion & current Champion Australian sire FASTNET ROCK has sired another stakes winner over the weekend! 3yo gelding SUPER COOL added the Gr2 Autumn Classic when he went on to turn the tables over last years Gr1 Victoria Derby winner FIVEANDAHALFSTAR.
SUPER COOL is halfway through a four-run autumn campaign before the son of FASTNET ROCK will spell with an eye on Australasia's weight-for-age championship, The Cox Plate. The Gr2 Autumn Classic on Saturday was clearly a race in two rounding the home turn as SUPER COOL chased FIVEANDAHALFSTAR, who had already seen off the rest of the field, with the son of FASTNET ROCK getting the upper hand 75 metres from the finish to score by a length.
SUPER COOL made it another stakes winner for FASTNET ROCK on Saturday
SUPER COOL could progress to the 2040 metre Gr2 Alister Clark Stakes at Mooney Valley before he goes out for a spell but it does not look like the FASTNET ROCK gelding will head toward the AJC Derby. With Saturday’s win, SUPER COOL took his record to 2 wins (also including the Gr2 Mitchelton Wines Vase at Moonee Valley) & 3 placings (including runner-up in the Gr1 Victoria Derby) from 7 starts for $467,350 earnings.
FASTNET ROCK’S progeny had a brilliant day overall at Caulfield as Melbourne’s Festival of Racing continues. Adding to the win of SUPER COOL we saw FAST ‘N’ ROCKING finish 2nd in the Gr1 Blue Diamond, FAMILY CREST finish 2nd in the Gr2 Mannerism Stakes and UNDENIABLY finish 4th in the Gr1 Oakleigh Plate.
These results all contributed to FASTNET ROCK reclaiming the lead in the 2012/13 sires premiership standings. FASTNET ROCK has been locked in a head to head battle for supremacy in this year’s general sires premiership with COMMANDS. After the performances of FASTNET ROCK progeny this weekend, he improves his record to 87 winners for the season, 12 of whom have won at stakes level, for a total of 123 race wins and 14 stakes victories. Overall his progeny have won a total of $6,439,101 worth of prizemoney putting him over $300,000 in front of fellow Dynamic sire COMMANDS.
FASTNET ROCK is the benchmark for sires in the southern hemisphere
The feats of FASTNET ROCK are definitely not to be scoffed at! Last year FASTNET ROCK dominated the sires premiership from start to finish. When FASTNET ROCK’S unbeaten dual Gr1 winning daughter ATLANTIC JEWEL claimed another Group 1 victory in the ATC All Aged Stakes, Fastnet Rock smashed through the Australian seasonal earnings ceiling of $10 million. He was the first stallion to achieve the feat since Encosta de Lago in 2007/08. This season he is well on his way to doing it again as he already sits on over $6.4mil in earnings with almost half the season remaining!
FASTNET ROCK has an unbelievable “Runners to Earners” ratio of 93.4% which is virtually unrivalled in racing. Because of the outstanding performances that his progeny keep putting in on track it has forced his owners, Coolmore Stud to raise his fee service fee year after year. After starting with a service fee of $55,000 it was then raised to $66,000 then to $137,500 and now a whopping $220,000. FASTNET ROCK’S progeny are still in the highest demand and have been selling like hotcakes across the major yearling sales this year. To begin the year, his progeny sold at an average of $342,000 at the Magic Millions sale and then went on to post numbers of NZ$419,284 at the Karaka Premier sale. With a number of top lots by FASTNET ROCK to go through the ring at the upcoming Melbourne Premier Sale, it will be no surprise to the team at DYNAMIC to see them rise even further.
