Dynamic 3yo Filly DINKY DI DORA made it a
one act affair at Newcastle on Saturday when she scored in Race 1 on the NJC programme, NHP ISO PLUGS AND SOCKETS F&M MAIDEN PLATE winning at her 4th career start over 1350m claiming the 1st prize of $12,250 + $5,00O BOBS Bonus.
On a Track rated a Soft 6, she ran a time of:
1:21.76 sizzling home a last 600m in: 33.48 secs.
Ridden by Mitchel Bell, DINKY DI DORA (Redoute’s Choice x Diana Cazadora (CHI) led from the barriers to the finishing post in a decisive win and a wonderful way to break her maiden.
DINKY DI DORA (Redoute’s Choice ex Diana Cazadora (CHI)) a beautifully bred daughter of Australia’s Champion Sire from a Group 1 winning South American mare, has always shown well above average ability however things haven’t gone to plan in her previous races which had denied her important victories.
On Saturday in a small field, we were never going to question the result because the plan was always to dictate terms off the front and turn it into a genuine race rather than a sit and sprint.
On debut the stable took her to Scone where we considered her a put in take-out affair, but nothing is that easy in racing. Our filly stood flat footed, missed the start, was last away and the race was over. She was given another barrier trial as a refresher to jump at the gates and then was tipped out for a spell.
She resumed with 2 solid trials against good opposition before resuming at Newcastle over 1150m.
She jumped well that day and went forward before dropping anchor which didn’t suit our filly, she should have kept rolling but was restrained. The winner was too good on the day but we were pipped out for 2nd.
Then second up she drew barrier 11 of 11 and had to work hard but alas, was trapped 3 deep on the speed and simply had to work far too hard facing the breeze. The winner won by 4 lengths so we were only a small margin from the runner up.
Now looking for 1500m-1600m the racing calendar was just not helpful. So we elected to have another 1350m run, even though it was now considered too short, it would give us a good fitness foundation upon which to go up in trip.
When the nominations came out, we had no hesitation booking leading provincial rider
MITCHELL BELL who we believed would be able to judge the tempo perfectly and control the race off the front. This is exactly what happened. Our horse came out running and Mitchel allowed her to go straight to the front. Keeping the race under his control until the home turn, Mitchell asked the filly to respond which she did impressively. From the 400m to the post the race was under control.
Despite a 3.0kg pull in the weights by the runner up and a 2kg pull in the weights, our filly was too strong and was never in doubt.
We could not believe the generosity of the tote who paid out a massive $4.10 for the win in a field of 5 runners.
Good things come to those who wait.

terrific team that GAI employs, led by
Gai’s right hand man, co-trainer Adrian Bott, who keep the stable rolling like a well-oiled machine.
Even down to the
bit of schooling Gai elected to give
DINKY DI DORA on Thursday to freshen the filly mentally and tuning her physically, to help her enjoy the training regime.
