An incredible day on Saturday for horses out of Zabeel mare’s with four individual stakes performers coming at Caulfield and Randwick.
Among these horses was the sensational Gr1 win of Ocean Park in the Underwood Stakes over 1800m.
Ocean Park and trainer Gary Hennessey made the trip over from New Zealand for the Australian spring and it has already paid healthy dividends.
Ocean Park is by Thorn Park however what is more exciting for us is that he is out of Zabeel mare, Sayyida.
Sayyida has produced 3 to race for 2 winners but the 3rd of her raced progeny had its first start on Saturday where it ran 3rd and its premier New Zealand trainer, Roger James is said to have big wraps on her.
The second stakes performer out of a Zabeel mare last weekend was another New Zealand trained horse that has made the jump across the ditch, It’s a Dundeel.
Zabeel has been a fantastic broodmare sire
There are big wraps on this 3yo colt trained by Murray Baker who made it four from four when he impressively won the Gr3 Gloaming Stakes at Randwick over 1800m. This colt is by High Chaparral and out of the Zabeel mare Stareel.
Although Zabeel mares are doing a brilliant job with staying type horses, he is certainly more than a one trick pony as indicated by the results he is getting with some of the sprinter– milers.
A perfect example can be seen in Villa Spendido. She produced a lovely effort in the Heritage Stakes LR at Randwick for 3yos finishing second and earning her first black type.
Villa Spendido is by the ever consistent Holy Roman Emperor and out Zabeel mare November Song. The Gerald Ryan trained filly raced over 1100m metres on the weekend however she looks like she will get a mile as she progresses through the grades.
Finally, the half-sister to Atlantic Jewel, Commanding Jewel ran second in the Gr3 Thousand Guineas Prelude but certainly lost not admirers.
There has been big wraps on this 3yo filly from day one and she further impressed on the weekend when she narrowly went down to Lady of Harrods.
This filly is by Commands and out of Regards, a Zabeel mare.
What is more important to Dynamic is that she is bred on exactly the same cross as of our own recently syndicated and final offering of our original 2012 crop. By Commands from Making Fey she is a filly also bred on the Commands-Zabeel cross.
Dynamic's own Commands - Making Fey filly
The Commands – Zabeel cross has already produced Gr1 winner Purple, Gr2 winners Rain Affair and Altar and LR winner Royal Commands with Commanding Jewel now stakes placed and seemingly next in line to taste a stakes victory.
This cross is regarded as one of the best in the New Zealand stud book and continues to gain fans as more horses bred on this line hit the racetrack.
Last year Zabeel was the champion Broodmare Sire in both Australia and New Zealand and he is getting better with age. Dynamic recognised this fact when we originally purchased our Command – Making Fey filly at the 2012 Inglis Easter Yearling Sales in Sydney. This filly has all the makings of a 3yo Oaks type horse and will be trained by Sydney’s leading trainer in Chris Waller.
What gives us at Dynamic more confidence is the results that Zabeel continues producing as a broodmare sire on a weekly basis. Keep an eye on the Dynamic website to find out more on the success of Zabeel and also for updates on our own Commands – Making Fey filly.
