Coolmore’s Northern-Hemisphere super sire
Galileo posted
three (3) new Group 1 winners in Europe over the weekend, raising his overall tally of
Group 1 Winners to 50 and his
overall number of Stakes Winners to a massive 201.
GALILEO - World Champion Sire
Galileo sired the winners of both the
English St Leger with Bondi Beach and Irish St Leger with Order of St George, both trained by Aidan O’Brien for Coolmore.
The hat-trick was brought up by very promising two year-old filly
Minding who led home a Group 1 trifecta for Galileo in the Moyglare Stakes at The Curragh beating her stablemates Ballydoyle and Alice Springs.
Dubawi (Darley sire) has been leading the GB/Ireland Sires List this year but
Galileo is right back in the race now for the premiership title he has won in six of the past seven seasons.
Galileo now aged 17, shuttled to Australia for five seasons at the start of his stud career but for whatever reason, did not quite achieve the success here that was hoped for, despite siring Group winners such as
Linton, Niwot, Sousa, Tanby, Gallant Tess, Sertorius, as well as
Group 1 winners Igugu and Mahbooba in South Africa.
His star son Adelaide (IRE), winner of last year’s Cox Plate was added to the Coolmore Stud’s Hunter Valley roster this spring at a fee of just $22,000.
Coolmore’s Champion 3yo Stayer in Ireland and Champion 4yo Stayer in the USA – CAPE BLANCO – is another son of Galileo who has the breeding world a flutter with the deeds he is doing this season as a First-Crop Sire.
