GERALD RYAN set to Debut Valuable 2yo Colt
Top juvenile conditioner Gerald Ryan is thinking hard about running his
$1.3 million yearling purchase GRAND CROSS (Fastnet Rock / Defiant Dame), in the $85,000 2YO Plate (1000m) at Randwick this Saturday.
Gerald Ryan paid $1.3 million for Grand Cross at this year's Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of
Coolmore Stud, with the vendors retaining a portion of the 2yo colt in co-ownership.
The
Fastnet Rock colt is the first foal from the stakes-winning
More Than Ready mare Defiant Dame, winner of the
2010 Gimcrack Stakes LR (1000m) at Randwick.
"He's a nice horse, moves well,"
Gerald Ryan stated.
"He's had two trials, improved from the first trial to the second, and he seems to have improved a little since the second trial too.
“He'll only have this one run then go out for a break again, but he's a nice horse."
Gerald added, "At this stage he'll run but if I'm not pleased with him by the end of the week, he will go straight to the paddock."
Gerald Ryan’s Stables are achieving terrific success at the moment, as the top horseman continues to recover from a horror early spring, when his stable was decimated by a particularly nasty virus that swept through it, knocking out all his main spring hopefuls.
So far the recovery is well on target supported by a wonderful set of trainer statistics:
In NSW:
13 Wins; 13.13% Win Strike Rate; 37 Placings; 37.37% Strike Rate; 99 Starters; $591,805 Earnings
Sydney Metro:
7 Wins; 11.29% Win Strike Rate; 23 Placings; 37.10% Strike Rate; 62 Starters; $485,355 Earnings
Last 50 Runners:
7 Wins (14.00%); 13 Placings (26.00%).
Whilst there was further news emanating from the stable about another
Gerald Ryan trained horse
“Charlie Boy” who was disappointing on Saturday.
The colt has now had his plans shelved to follow in the footsteps of
Dynamic Syndications top Gr1 Sprinter ATOMIC FORCE and launch an Australian assault on the two New Zealand's Gr1 feature sprints during the New Year.
Gerald Ryan had considered the same programme with
Charlie Boy that
Atomic Force followed in 2012, by running in the Railway Stakes at Ellerslie and the Telegraph Handicap at Trentham.
However
Gerald has quickly aborted those plans. According to Gerald, the enigmatic colt will be immediately gelded and spelled.
The decision was made easy for the Trainer, after the son of
Myboycharlie finished a lacklustre sixth in last Saturday's
Gr3 Kevin Heffernan Stakes at Sandown.
