Emirates Park green and white silks have been carried to victory in the Golden Slipper by Mossfun and Estijaab in recent years and after Saturday's $500,000 Inglis Banner (1000m) at Moonee Valley on the strength of the win by filly Espaaniyah (I Am Invincible) they could be prominent again in the richest 2yo race on turf in 2019.
Espaaniyah was making her career debut and did everything right, making a fast start from her inside barrier and railed like a greyhound to defeat Biscara (Rubick) by two lengths with Salome (Unencumbered) a further two and three-quarter lengths back in third.
It was the second consecutive victory in the Inglis Banner race for Waterhouse and Bott having also claimed victory in 2017 with Setsuna (by Choisir).
It was a real professional performance, she has come ahead in leaps and bounds since coming down to Melbourne," Bott said.
"Emirates are great supporters of the stable and the industry so it's great to see them get a nice filly like this. They go to the sales and pick out the quality types and she's one of them.
"He (I Am Invincible) is an incredible stallion, we've got plenty of nice types at home and we want to secure a few more going forward."
A $750,000 purchase out of the Tyreel Stud draft at the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Espaaniyah is the second foal of the Flying Spur mare Catalonia.
The win of Espaaniyah continues the terrific run by the Waterhouse / Bott combo in Melbourne this Spring. The week before they claimed victory with Thinkin’ Big and Shumook and then mid-week they trained the quinella in the Geelong Cup with Runaway and Northwest Passage.
Apart from winning now four Stakes Races, other Gai and Adrian runners have also been competitive in Melbourne with:
Social Element running 2nd in the City Tattersalls Club Cup LR 2400m
Siege of Quebec running 4th in the MVRC Crystal Mile Gr2 1600m.
Focus now turns to the 4 day VRC Flemington Carnival where the stable has genuine chances to add to their fantastic run.
