High Chaparral Mare Wins Group Two
Blue-blooded mare
Forever Loved (4m High Chaparral x Diamond Like, by Danehill) became her sire’s
59th Stakes Winner when she scored a valuable Black Type win at Flemington on Saturday as she powered clear to win the
Gr2 VRC Blazer Stakes.
Forever Loved was
third in the Gr1 ATC Vinery Stud Stakes and fourth in the Gr1 ATC Australian Oaks last season, but seems to have come back even better this campaign.
She was strong at the end of the 1400 metres for Vlad Duric and will be hard to beat as she progresses to her preferred longer trips.
“We have always thought she would be better over more ground,” said Racing Manager, Emma Pearce.
“This is a fabulous result for everyone concerned – Gai Waterhouse, the owners and the rider.
“We have always thought she had a good Gr1 in her and that’s the way I’m sure Gai will head with her.”
A NZB Premier purchase from the Cambridge Stud draft, Forever Loved has won three of 11 starts earning over $300,000 in prizemoney.
Forever Loved is a half-sister to stakes-winner Zephyron and stakes-placed Miss Zenella and Ardeche being from stakes-winning Danehill mare Diamond Like, who comes from the Diamond Lover branch of the Eight Carat (GB) family.
A filly with a gold plated pedigree, it’s not hard to see why Forever Loved was the most expensive filly by her sire High Chaparral sold in 2012.
Longchamp G1 glory for High Chaparral colt
Admirable stayer High Jinx (6g High Chaparral-Leonara, by Surumu) starred in the Gr1 Prix du Cadran at Longchamp on Sunday when claiming another top-grade success for High Chaparral.
The six-year-old, held off Bathyron to win the prestigious prize for trainer James Fanshawe.
“High Jinx is a horse that I like a lot,” said Fanshawe.
“He has been placed twice in this race before so we are very happy to have finally won it. Luckily, the jockey didn’t listen to my orders and he made the running. It was a real test of stamina and it worked. He was superb this morning and I was confident. We will see if we come back for the Gr1 Prix Royal-Oak.”
High Chaparral filly stars in Longchamp G2
The Duke of Alburquerque’s home-bred Frine (4f High Chaparral-Castalia, by Cardoun) put in a career-best effort to take the G2 Prix de Royallieu at Longchamp on Saturday.
The High Chaparral filly, was having his first start for Carlos Laffos-Parias as she fought off the three-year-olds Mayhem and Zarshana under jockey Gerald Mosse.
“I merely continued the work of her previous trainer. She got a much better run through than last time in the Prix de Pomone,” said Laffon-Parias.
“She came to my yard with the plan to run in the Gr1 Prix Vermeille but after some thought we decided we would miss that and wait for today. I was delighted with Gerald Mosse who gave her an exemplary ride.”
Exciting Filly for High Chaparral
The most expensive yearling by High Chaparral sold in Australia in 2013, Fenway (3f High Chaparral x Deedra, by Zabeel) scored an eye-catching debut win at Bendigo on Thursday.
A $700,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Colm Santry Bloodstock from the Strawberry Hill Stud draft, Fenway opened her account with a dominant two length win in the 1400 metre maiden.
Prepared by Lee and Shannon Hope, Fenway was allowed to find her feet back in the field after jumping from an outside gate for Damien Oliver and when shown clear running on the home turn quickly loomed into contention.
She sustained a long finishing run to sail past the leaders and win with authority.
Entered for the Gr1 VRC Oaks, Fenway is certainly a filly bred with Oaks goals in mind.
She is a half-sister to Gr3 winner War and is the second winner for blue-blooded Zabeel mare Deedra, a sibling to multiple Gr1 winners Tuesday Joy and Sunday Joy, the dam of champion mare More Joyous.
Deedra’s dam Joie Denise and grand-dam Denise’s Joy are both Oaks winners, so it’s not hard to see why the Oaks dream would be well and truly alive for this filly, albeit maybe more for the autumn than spring!
Oaks Contender for High Chaparral
Promising filly Ballet Suite (3f High Chaparral x Suitely, by Woodman) broke her maiden in good style at Bendigo on Wednesday and has aspirations towards the Gr1 VRC Crown Oaks.
Stepped up to 1600 metres at her third start, the Mark Kavanagh trained Ballet Suite produced a strong staying effort to win comfortably by half a length for Glen Boss.
She will now be tested against better company with the Gr2 VRC Edward Manifold Stakes a possible option as she heads on a path to the Oaks at Flemington on November 6.
“She is a lovely horse, beautifully put together and a nice, big strong girl,” Kavanagh said.
“The longer the races get the better she is going to be. She still has a bit to learn, but there is certainly plenty of raw talent there.”
A NZB Premier purchase Ballet Suite runs in the Coolmore navy for a large syndicate and is a half-sister to stakes-winner Casquets and Group III placed Merensky Reef.
Bred by Raffles Dancers, Ballet Suite is the fifth winner from five to race from Suitely, a placed half-sister by Woodman (USA) to Gr2 winner Flak Jacket.
FLUORESECENT lights up the track for a HIGH CHAPARRAL Double
Making it a double at Bendigo for High Chaparral was lightly raced four year-old mare Fluorescent (4m High Chaparral x Argante, by Star Way), who scored her second win from five starts when saluting over 2400 metres for Team Hawkes.
Bred and retained to race by Windsor Park Stud, she is a full sister to classy stayer Monaco Consul, who won both Gr1 VRC Victoria Derby and ATC Spring Champion Stakes as well as finishing third in a Caulfield Cup.
White Dove Makes it 3 for HIGH CHAPARRAL on the Day
Gai Waterhouse provided the third winner for High Chaparral when White Dove (4m High Chaparral x Angel Dreamer, by Street Cry) made it back-to-back wins at Canterbury.
She scored by more than a length over 1900 metres and has now won three of six starts.
An Inglis Easter purchase from the Windsor Park Stud draft, White Dove is the first winner for Angel Dreamer (USA), a placed sister to Group I winner Majestic Roi.
