Gary Moore (62), Macau’s leading trainer and a son of the legendary
George Moore, and the younger brother of HK based trainer
John Moore, has returned to Australia to commence training in partnership with his son
Nicholas (30) at
Rosehill Gardens. The boys kicked off their new venture on Friday afternoon at Scone with a big win.
GARY MOORE
Gary Moore closed the book on what has been a highly
successful and
colourful career in Asia, to start a new venture - one that brings one of racing's great family dynasties a full circle to where it all began - in Australia.

On a Heavy 8 at Scone on Friday afternoon, the
Moore boys had their first starter in Australia. The horse
Shengli ran in race 3 and was far too good for its opponents recording a dominant win. What a great way to start off their new stables. It was wonderful to view the excitement emanating from
Nicholas when being interviewed.
The win made its own statement about what surely will become,
one of the most prominent and successful stables in Sydney racing over the coming seasons.

Gary Moore won eight training premierships in Macau, but despite his dominance and the easier lifestyle, Gary was keen to return to Sydney with his family and applied for boxes with the ATC whom granted
Gary and Nicholas 24 boxes at Rosehill Gardens. The boys took possession on August 1.
Gary has been travelling to and from Macau and Sydney setting up the new stables whilst ensuring his Macau stables kept firing until the seasons end. Nicholas has remained in Sydney, working the horses they already have in their Rosehill stables.
Gary requested he finish the Macau Racing Season before returning to Australia, which was granted thus allowing him to claim another training title.
Gary Moore did train at Randwick in the late 1990’s and Dean Watt Bloodstock was one of his clients. Together we had good success. Gary then moved to Macau where he has dominated that racing scene.
The
Dynamic Syndications team recently caught up with
Gary and Nicholas and we were all keen to re-establish our successful working relationship.
Gary is an absolute gentleman, outstanding horseman and top judge. Most importantly, he has passed-on these same traits to his son Nicholas.
Team Dynamic are delighted to be joining up with
Team Moore. We are excited about the future and look forward to supporting their stable with horses in the future.
Gary Moore is an accomplished raconteur and has plenty of stories to tell, but like all good racing identities, the best stories can’t go to print.
What is on record is Gary’s outstanding and vastly under-appreciated professional resume.
* He has seven Hong Kong jockeys' championships and two Derby wins amongst nearly 700 victories.
* In Europe, he won a French championship and a Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe are included amongst his successes.
* Then there are his considerable big-race triumphs in Australia.
* It is Hall of Fame calibre across three continents.
After retiring from the saddle, Gary commenced a training career in Australia and then onto Macau, where he has won eight premierships in 14 seasons.
In a recent interview for the South China Post in HK, Gary said:
Gary & George Moore in earlier days when Gary was a jockey
"I had my first ride as a 15-year-old and dad said to mum, 'I think we better send him back to school'," Moore laughed. "And then when I stopped riding and went back to Australia to train, my father said 'they'll eat you alive down there'.
"Dad is gone now, but in the weeks before he passed away he told me, “you've reached an echelon that you should be very proud of and I think you are a good trainer”.
"That meant everything. I have big hopes for our family moving to Australia," Moore said.
"It's not something that I have done on the spur of the moment. I asked the Australian Turf Club for boxes 14 months ago. We have planned this for a while now. What I said to the ATC is that we are moving there to be a Group race-winning stable," he said.
“We hope to be competing with the big stables,
Chris Waller, Darley, Gai Waterhouse and Peter Snowden. The prizemoney is so great in Australia and I want to be part of it.”
What Gary also is hopeful to do in conjunction with his brother John, is scour Europe for staying talent to aim at Australia's rich Cups.
"John is one of the best trainers in the world," Gary said of his brother,
"It comes down to his selection of horses," Moore said.
"Every year I go to Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood and I follow John around the stables. We do a lot of miles and while John is looking at sprinters and milers and mostly younger horses, we are looking at tried horses for the feature races in Australia."
"I regret never having the chance to train in Hong Kong," Said Gary.
"I am sure that if I had the opportunity, I don't know whether I would have been able to beat my brother, but maybe you would have been able to see a Moore one-two."
Moore did get to train a race winner at Sha Tin when Viva Pronto led all the way in the 2010 Hong Kong Macau Trophy.

"That was one of the best days in racing. I've won some of the biggest races in the world but that was a very special day.”
