Many times at Dynamic we have stressed to our owners when purchasing a share in a racehorse, you have to carefully look at the breeding. Breeding plays an integral part in the potential a certain galloper may have to perform at the top level later in their career. The better the siblings perform on track, the more chance you have of achieving racetrack success and the success in the breeding barn upon retirement.
Last night in Hong Kong, we saw the superbly bred Champagne Days stamp his foot down with authority to win the Hoi Lai Handicap over 1800m by a total of 3 lengths. The Encosta De Lago – Petta Gaye gelding now improves his overall record to 28 starts for 3 wins and a further 10 placings for HK$2,721,900 in prizemoney. What made the effort of Champagne Days even more impressive last night was that from the 8 races that were held at Sha Tin last night, Champagne Days was the only horse to win who did not sit first or second in running.
Champagne Days won comfortably at Sha Tin last night
The 6yo gelding sat three pairs back on the fence for much of the race before high profile Hong Kong based jockey, Weichong Marwing pushed Champagne Days to the outside. From there, he found clear running and produced a barnstorming run in which he never looked troubled going on to win by 3 lengths. This race can be viewed below and shows just how impressive he was.
Champagne Days wins easily by a margin of 3 lengths
Champagne Day is out of the unraced Danehill mare, Petta Gaye who has produced five horses to race for a total of four winners. Petta Gaye is the 1/2 sister to Champion mare Horlicks 17 wins (5 Gr1 wins). She is the dam of Champion Stayer Brew (Melbourne Cup winner) and Stakes Winner Bubble. Also the dams of Stakes Winner Solo Flyer Gr2 , Fiumicino Dual Gr1 winner and My Tusker Gr2. With Champagne Days progressing through the grades, it would be no surprise to see him add more black type to this impressive pedigree.
This is good news for potential owners who attend the NZ Bloodstock Ready to Run sale at Karaka in New Zealand as they will have the chance to buy a superb individual. It was always the plan at Dynamic Syndications that we would purchase thoroughbreds this year looking to sell them at the Ready to Run sales at Karaka. It is a sale which has boasted plenty of success in recent times and the breeding of our colt which can be seen above puts it in the “best in sale” category.
We purchased our Encosta De Lago – Petta Gaye colt at the Magic Millions sales earlier this year on the Gold Coast and we have seen vast improvement since that time. We have followed through with our plan to take it to New Zealand as we believe it has the makings of a champion racehorse in the future. He will go through the ring as Lot 259 next week and breezed up over 200m in the slick time of 10.67. This was much better than the average of 10.85 seconds that was recorded over the 360 2yos who breezed up some two weeks ago. A video of his breeze up can be seen below. He is furthest from the rail in the Royal Blue, Black Armbands and Cap.
Our colt breezed up well in preparation for the Ready to Run sale
As mentioned above, breeding plays a huge role in determining how your horse is going to perform on track. Each year there is approximately 20,000 horses born in Australia and New Zealand with about 5,000 being born in the “A” category whilst 15,000 are born on B – F crosses. Of the 5,000 horses in the “A range”, we see approximately 75% of all stakes winners coming from this category. Although 15,000 are born in the B – F grade, we only 25% of stakes winners come from this category. This is why here at Dynamic, we make sure we are buying from the A range to give you the best chance of success.
Our Encosta De Lago – Petta Gaye colt is rated an A+++, the highest possible rating for any cross. He was specifically bred on the Encosta De Lago – Danehill cross which has produced a plethora of stakes winners including Gr1 winners Aloha and Delago Deluxe. Since buying him on the Gold Coast in January, he has gone through his initial education process and those involved are extremely buoyant of his racing prospects going forward.
Our Encosta De Lago - Petta Gaye colt has always commanded attention
There has already been plenty of attention that has come for this athletic and striking individual. We are excited about his racing and breeding prospects going forward and would not be surprised to see him fetch one of the highest price tags in the sale. For more information on this colt or any others at the Ready to Run sale at Karaka next week on the 20th and 21st of November, please contact the office on (02) 9587 1511.
