Well, what an exciting day of racing we saw at Caulfield yesterday! The day was highlighted by the stunning win of superb filly Commanding Jewel in the Gr1 Thousand Guineas. Here at Dynamic Syndications, we were extremely happy for trainer Leon Corstens and jockey Damien Oliver on their outstanding achievement but on a personally level, we were struggling to contain our excitement.
Commanding Jewel brought a smile to Dynamic faces winning the Gr1 Thousand Guineas yesterday
Earlier this year we purchased a lovely filly by champion sire Commands out of Zabeel mare, Making Fey. Well before seeing her at the sale yard, we recognised that this filly was beautifully bred and a match with our strict breeding protocol. The impeccable Commands – Zabeel cross has been replicated in what is widely regarded as one of the best families in the New Zealand Stud book and upon further review, we knew we had to have this filly. Although there are only 26 horses to be bred on this cross to date, the results speak for themselves as it has produced multiple stakes winners and a numerous other victors. Of the 26 runners bred on the Commands – Zabeel cross there has been 20 winners including four stakes winners, two of whom are Gr1 winners (Purple and Commanding Jewel) both fillies and a further two horses stakes placed.
Commanding Jewel is a three quarter sister to undefeated dual Gr1 winner, Atlantic Jewel but it is the way that this filly is bred that is exciting for Dynamic. Offspring out of Zabeel mares have been wonderfully successful with Zabeel receiving his first broodmare crown last season and he currently sits well clear in the Broodmare sires list this year. Among his 6 stakes winners this season in the broodmare title race, we see three individual Gr1 winners in Ocean Park, It’s a Dundeel and the previously mentioned Commanding Jewel. Our filly is also out of the Zabeel Mare, Making Fey who is well and truly doing the job at stud year in, year out.
Our Commands - Making Fey filly looked a picture earlier this week
Commands is also the leading sire this season and just posted his 50th stakes winner in Commanding Jewel. This fact alone brings a big smile to the faces of everyone involved at Dynamic Syndications. Commands has dominated the sire premiership this year and is clearly ahead of all his rivals at this stage. From his 124 runners this season, Commands has sired 39 winners including 6 stakes winners and 2 individual Gr1 winners. As a stallion this season he has raked in over $2.83m worth of prizemoney which is an incredible $740,000 ahead of Lonhro who currently sits 2nd in the premiership.
Our Commands – Making Fey filly which is yet to be named will be trained at the Rosehill stables of Chris Waller and we could not be happier with how she is progressing. Along with the fact that the mare Making Fey has produced five to race who are all winners including Gr1 winning 2yo Apercu, she is just a lovely relaxed type. Our filly is currently at the pre-training farm at Wild Oaks where she is preparing for her first visit to the stables of Chris Waller in the next month.
Chris Waller and Dynamic Syndications will again team up racing another quality filly
The question was asked of us at Dynamic recently why the decision was made to buy this individual and as stated above for us, the answer was easy.
In summary,
1. She is bred on the same direct cross (Commands-Zabeel) that has produced 20 winners from 26 to race including Gr1 winning fillies Commanding Jewel and Purple.
2. She is out of a Zabeel mare and he won last year’s broodmare sire’s crown and is comfortably leading this year after Gr1 victories from Ocean Park, It’s a Dundeel and Commanding Jewel.
3. She is by multiple champion sire Commands who currently sits over $740,000 in prizemoney above all his rivals whilst leading stallions premiership.
4. She is out of a NZ mare (Making Fey) who has produced five to race for five winners including Gr1 winning 2yo, Apercu.
5. She will be trained by Sydney’s leading trainer, Chris Waller who currently leads the Metropolitan training premiership with over 47 wins for the season, 21 clear of his closest rival in 2nd.
6. She has impeccable conformation, is a relaxed and happy individual and looks a ready-made race horse.
All these factors contributed to why we have a promising filly on our hands and we are excited about her prospects going forward. On every occasion that Dynamic Syndications purchase a yearling, a huge amount of time and effort is put in. With our Commands – Making Fey filly, we can clearly see that our hard work is being rewarded on track and that she is already an excellent breeding prospect even before reaching the track.
We wish all the best of luck to the owner that have purchased into this lovely filly and we cannot wait to see her reach the race track and hopefully live up to her wonderful breeding and background.
