It is a very satisfying feeling winning a race anywhere from a bush maiden to a Group 1. However no matter where the win is recorded, the most enjoyable aspect of any victory for any Dynamic Syndications runner, is when the plan that was hatched months earlier then week by week, day by day, hour by hour, thanks to meticulous attention to detail, comes to fruition.
MASTERSTROKE winning race 1 at Warwick Farm on Wednesday was exactly that !
WATCH THE RACE HERE
It was months in the planning to be ready for today and has offered the Team at Dynamic immense satisfaction. It’s the reason why we do what we do, the driving force behind Team Dynamic. It’s the motivation to be successful on the racetrack for our clients so they can enjoy their winning experiences and live their dreams.
MASTERSTROKE became Dynamic Syndications 301st Winner and it remains just as exhilarating as our first winner 7 years and 2 days ago !
Masterstroke - On his toes parading before the race
MASTERSTROKE won the 2013ATC Membership On Sale Now Handicap 1000m, a 0MW grade for 3yo’s and upwards. Masterstroke was turned out in terrific order by impressive young Warwick Farm trainer Jason Coyle and was ridden to tactical instruction perfectly by in form jockey Tommy Berry.
MASTERSTROKE is typical of many of the Exceed and Excel progeny with the fact they have a genuine dislike towards rain affected tracks. It seemed Masterstroke earlier in his career had done something to upset the weather gods as the horse certainly knew how to break droughts. Everytime we had him ready, the heavens seemed to know and opened up turning racetracks from roads to rivers.
In early 2012, in the middle of summer he found heavy and dead tracks, then we tipped him out hoping for the weather to improve. This certainly didn’t happen and we gave him 3 starts in winter on a heavy, slow and dead surface. He won his third race on the dead track as even money favourite but still struggled on the shifting surface. So we decided to send him for a short spell with the view of coming back to the races at the end of October and try to race him through the summer.
Masterstoke - Always been up to city class wins on dry tracks
We identified today’s race which was a perfect class to resume. He had not won in town and loves the short course. He is now trained at Warwick Farm since Jason moved from Randwick and we expected (fingers crossed) the weather would be improving and the tracks dry.
MASTERSTROKE went for a short let up on 23 July and then went onto the water walker at Wild Oaks on 13 August. After 7 days, he returned to Jason’s stables at Warwick Farm on 20 August. Five weeks later on 28 September he had a soft foundation fitness trial at Warwick Farm and then, went across to Randwick on the 12 August to have a more serious, fine tuning trial in which he won that heat with authority. That had him cherry ripe for this event.
Tommy Berry rode Masterstroke in his trial win at Randwick and was very keen to stay with the horse.
When the nominations came out, we could not have been more excited. The race looked ideal and under the 0MW grade we knew we would be well treated at the weights. At acceptance time we found a small number of acceptances and had come up with barrier 2. The plans we had laid back on 21 July on a cold wet day at Kembla, were coming together nicely.
Dean Watt & Jason Coyle on 21 July 2012 - The day they hatched the plan about winning this event.
We analysed the field and worked out the speed map. We felt the speed would be on up front and they would belt along. We wanted to sit off them 3 to 4 lengths and tack on approaching the turn and stay on the fence until the 250m before presenting late and sprinting well fresh, get home over the top of the leaders.
Tommy Berry could not have ridden any better. It was a gem of a ride following the tactics perfectly and at the 250m, he pushed the button and went whoosh. He stormed home his last furlong in an unbelievably quick 11.05 seconds a massive 0.53 seconds faster than any other runner. In fact, he recorded splits of 33.59; 22.23 and 11.05 which were easily the fastest of the race. It’s no wonder off these sectional times, the horse smashed the Class Record running 56.73 seconds for the 1000m, lowering the previous mark of 56.91 by whopping 0.18 secs. That had been set by Mighty Obvious back on 26/11/2010. He was also just 0.48 secs off the Track Record set by Impaler back in 2005.
Tommy Berry returned full of praise for Masterstroke and he believes the horse appreciated being on the dry surface and was going to be competitive in anything we put him in up to 1200m over the upcoming weeks. He’s flying and just a confident horse on top of the ground.
It seems we pulled off a MASTERSTROKE by being patient and we are looking forward to the upcoming races, especially over the Christmas period.
Congratulations to our Dynamic Team of Owners that race
