James Cummings is keeping his options open with his boom three-year-old
GOOD STANDING after an all-the-way win in Saturday’s
Caulfield Classic.
Good Standing romps in winning the Caulfield Classic
GOOD STANDING was the only competitor who was backing up from either the Caulfield Guineas (colts & geldings) or Thousand Guineas (fillies) a week earlier.
Good Standing, was sent out a the $2.90 favourite in the $500,000 Group 3 event for three-year-olds and was beautifully rated in front by Blake Shinn.
He kicked clear by three lengths and held off Rocketeer who got to within three-quarters of a length on the line. Inference ran home well for third, a further length away.
The aptly named son of Artie Schiller, is destined to stand at stud when his racing career is over, but Cummings is aware of the need for a Group 1 victory on the CV — and he has two options in coming weeks.
James Cummings will consider either the option of going to the
Gr1 Victoria Derby in two weeks, or waiting three weeks for the $2 million
Gr1 Emirates Stakes at weight-for-age.
James Cummings said: "“He is by a Breeder’s Cup winner Artie Schiller, he's a beautiful type and it's good to see him win a Caulfield Classic today,"
"We've got a couple of options."
“Hopefully he gets a lot of interest from breeders in the Hunter Valley and he’ll definitely find himself a good home.”
“He faced the breeze and did it tough,” Cummings said.
“It was a very strong effort from the horse.”
Under the conditions of the Gr1 Emirates Stakes, Good Standing would carry 51 kilograms against older horses.
Cummings said of the Emirates Stakes: “If that race has a few going to the paddock, we might go there,”
“He could give a race like that a big shout if a few of them go to the paddock.”
Good Standing has firmed from $8 to $5.50 equal favourite for the Victoria Derby with Rocketeer firming to $11.
Good Standing, has now won two of his nine starts.

Broken-in and she’s also been in and out of pre-training several times, this daughter of
VICEREINE (GB) offers sensational buying as a racing prospect with an excellent residual value upon racetrack retirement. Her pedigree is strong with
250 stakes horses in her female pedigree.
Hoofnote: Her 4yo ½ sister DUPE ‘N’ VICE romped in at Bendigo on Saturday for her 2nd win in her racing career and a nice addition to the pedigree page. Another ½ sister Exceleine – a city winner of 4 races, was sold as a broodmare in June for $200,000 showing the commercial depth of this pedigree.
