Happy Connections
LAGONDA (named after the luxury Aston-Martin British luxury car) put in a bold effort as a Maiden taking on the Class 1 Company, to come from behind to score a narrow but decisive win.
This win was vital because LAGONDA is such a magnificently bred mare and now, she is a winner – she will be well sought after for stud duties next season.
LAGONDA is from one of the Most Expensive female families in the Stud Book.
LAGONDA is by a Champion Sire, her Dam was a Record-Breaker, Her Grand-Dam was a Record Breaker and her 4th Dam was a Champion.
By ENCOSTA DE LAGO, LAGONDA is a daughter of the unraced mare PRETTY FLAMINGO (by More Than Ready).
PRETTY FLAMINGO earned a place in history when she sold at public auction as a weanling, for a then Australian record price of $600,000.
Whilst her Grand-dam is MILANOVA – the Australian Record Priced Mare who sold for $5 million.
MILANOVA is a sister to Champion racehorse and sire HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR (Sire of Caulfield Guineas winner MONGOLIAN KHAN)
Whilst LAGONDA’s fourth Dam is FRANFRELUCHE – Champion Filly.
On Tuesday LAGONDA was in a 1600m event at Nowra.
She won Race 5 on the programme the Chapman Motors Class 1 and Maiden Plate.
Trained by Gary Nickson at Warwick Farm, LAGONDA was ridden by Ricky Blewitt who gave the mare the run of the race.
Jumping away on even terms the rider elected to take hold to let the horse on her outside roll forward and that gave LAGONDA a nice trail in the one – one spot.
Staying in this position to the point of the home turn, LAGONDA was slipped some rein and the horse moved up to eye-ball the two leaders.
The race turned into a sprint home and in a tough battle LAGONDA down the outside was able to get on top of the Class 1 horses and won.
Jockey RICKY BLEWITT
Ricky returned to scale and reported to connections that it was a tough win.
“She wasn’t comfortable at any stage on the rain affected - shifting track surface.”
Further “being a mare taking on the Class 1 males, it was a courageous effort.”
Ricky also reported that the mare “felt she wanted to get out over further ground” and thought an “1800m – 2000m next time may suit the horse better than the 1600m did.”
LAGONDA returns to scale a Winner !
CONGRATULATIONS goes to our loyal team that race LAGONDA:
