WOW what a Dynamic win by LAMMA HILTON to win the TUNCURRY-FORSTER GOLD CUP.
What a ride by jet pilot RACHEL KING aboard our Brett Cavanough trained 5yo mare.
In a dramatic finish
LAMMA HILTON sprouted wings over the final 400m to claim a last stride victory in the
PACIFIC PALMS HOLIDAYS TUNCURRY-FORSTER TOOHEYS XXXX GOLD CUP over 2100 metres.
TUNCURRY-FORSTER TOOHEYS XXXX GOLD CUP – “WON IT”
It’s terrific when a plan comes off and Brett Cavanough and Rachel King delivered us a wonderful result in winning a race that had been on our agenda for some time. This plan was set back on the 20th July after she had won her second race in a row over 1600m at Dubbo.
We knew our mare could stay and a forward look at the calendar identified the way to get there and we followed that path to victory.
To be fair she was very unlucky at Warwick Farm last start when she couldn’t get clear running in the straight going up from 1600m to 2200m that day and connections were extremely confident the 2100m of this Gold Cup would be ideal.
Brett Cavanough has done a fantastic job keeping our mare happy and health and most importantly keeping her in form.
Today was her 8th run this preparation and her 3rd win.
The margin was slender but the win was dominant winning by 0.1 of a length over Lady Evelyn with the favourite White Boots just a pimple 0.01 length away in 3rd spot.
A mare that we knew wasn’t happy in rain affected ground, the win was as courageous as the ride was brilliant.
We had a pre-race tactic to allow LAMMA HILTON as per her racing pattern, to drift back in running to get into her rhythm early and conserve energy.
Then from the 600m start to edge forward and get onto the back of the pack before coming out wide into the straight and have last crack at them.
We knew we were fit, well-weighted and could stay which a lot of the opposition would find the 2100m trip too far.
Rachel King rode the perfect race.
The track had cut out during the 6 races previously run on the day and we knew
LAMMA HILTON would struggle in that type of ground. However Rachel who is riding in terrific touch, got onto the back of the field as they approached the home turn and then cut the corner saving valuable ground. Once in the straight, Rachel steered
LAMMA HILTON to be the widest runner.
According to Rachel post race, this was the first time in transit that
LAMMA HILTON could get a toe grip on the surface. That gave the mare confidence and she let rip with a big run down the outside.
The
Dynamic Duo were so wide that most didn’t see her unleashing and in the last bound
LAMMA HILTON put her head out to get her photo taken.
No excuses for the beaten brigade as they all had their chances and mid race LAMMA HILTON was 12 lengths off the speed and 10 lengths off the leaders turning for home.
A great ride and a great run by a horse polished up to be at her peak resulted in a superb win.
One thing about LAMMA HILTON is she can stay and there are some options coming up for the mare who is in a purple patch of form.
LAMMA HILTON has taken her Racing Career to 34 starts: 5 : 2 : 6 & $119,700 Prizemoney.
