The most dominant sire among European third-crop sires is Ballylinch Stud’s LOPE DE VEGA, a son of Shamardal, who emulated his sire by winning the G1 Poule D’Essai des Poulains and G1 Prix du Jockey-Club–French Derby (2100m) double in 2010.
LOPE DE VEGA was leading European freshman sire in 2014.
Since May 14, over the past 2 weeks
LOPE DE VEGA has sired seven (7) individual black-type horses, including:
Gr1 Winners Belardo and Jemayel
Blue De Vega
2 x Gr1 winners: Belardo and
Jemayel; as well as Gr1 Irish 2000 Guineas 3rd placed
Blue De Vega, plus the quinella with 3 year olds
Steel of Madrid and
Linguistic in the Fairway S., LR, (2000m) at Newmarket.
LOPE DE VEGA now has five (5) black-type winners (three group winners, two Group 1 winners) and 13 black-type horses this year.
He leads European third-crop sires both by North American & European earnings ($1.6 million) and by worldwide earnings ($2.6 million), which have also been boosted by 4-year-old mare
Very Special, a dual Group 2-winner in Dubai.
Why is this important to owners in Australia?
LOPE DE VEGA shuttled to Australia his first 4 seasons at stud. Unfortunately for the stallion, in the Southern Hemisphere he stood at the much maligned
PATINACK STUD owned then by Nathan Tinkler.
The stallion suffered as a result to gain traction in the market place. Then with the collapse of Tinkler’s business, PATINACK also suffered as a consequence.
Whilst this was happening,
LOPE DE VEGA was kicking goals in the Northern Hemisphere to such an extent he was
crowned Champion First Crop Sire of Europe.
The owners considered
LOPE DE VEGA too important to be shuttled again to Australia and the stallion remained in the Northern Hemisphere.
Sadly for Australian owners and breeders, this has proved a major disappointment.
LOPE DE VEGA is also kicking goals in the Southern Hemisphere.
His oldest are only 3 year-olds here and he is certainly doing the job.
This 2015-16 Southern Hemisphere Racing Season he has produced 32 individual winners with
2 x Gr2 winners SANTA ANA LANE and FRENCH FERN and also Gr2 placed
SNOOPY.
In Australia. LOPE DE VEGA 56 runners; 29 (2) winners; 49 (2) (51.8%); $1,486,823 prizemoney.
With a 51.8% strike rate and 29 winners, LOPE DE VEGA is the LEADING 2nd CROP SIRE by runners : winners
In fact, LOPE DE VEGA is the ONLY STALLION on the 2nd CROP SIRE’S LIST with 10+ Runners with a Strike Rate of over 50% as at 26-5-16.
To match that with 3 black type horses (all at Gr2 level), it’s understandable why the owners blocked his return to Australia.
The unfortunate circumstance here is he is lost to our industry.
The good news for Dynamic Syndications owners is that we purchased a fantastic colt by LOPE DE VEGA earlier this year.
A magnificent, big, strong, colt with flashy looks and excellent conformation matched by a clean bill of health from our veterinarian, our LOPE DE VEGA colt is from MIMES a speed machine trained by GAI, who will also train this colt.
He comes from a family well known to both GAI and Dynamic.
Whilst GAI trained MIMES who was a flying machine and winner at 1000m, Dynamic Syndications have previously purchased and raced another sibling from MIMES named SALTATOR who was also a flying machine and winner at 1100m.
Sitting prominently on the pedigree page are another 2 horses that have produced great success for GAI and Dynamic.
OVERREACH – Golden Slipper winner trained by GAI
REWARD FOR EFFORT – Blue Diamond Winner syndicated by Dynamic.
With the strength of the family matching the strength of the colt and with GAI having trained members of the family to Gr1 success, it’s hardly surprising we made this colt a priority at the sales.
Whilst it’s our plan to go to the market later this year with the colt, details can be found about him in our upcoming syndications section of our website.
