3yo g. Santa Ana Lane on the 27th February became the
first Australian stakes-winner for Lope de Vega, Shamardal's Group 1 winning son and his
13th stakes winner overall.
Seven days later on March 5th he was back in the headlines again, as
his 2yo daughter French Fern became his second Stakes Winner in Australia and 14th overall.
Lope De Vega’s oldest are 3yo’s in Australia.
LOPE DE VEGA - Sire
Lope De Vega on the racetrack was a dual Classic winner. He won the Group 1 French 2000 Guineas and French Derby in 2010:

Gr.1 Prix du Jockey-Club, 10.5f, (French Derby) Chantilly, by 3 lengths, beating PLANTEUR (Gr.1), CAPE BLANCO (Gr.1 x 6), BEHKABAD (Gr.1), etc.
He also won the Prix Montaigu at Deauville and Prix Al Khor at Longchamp on his only other starts at 2 years.
He was placed 3rd in the Gr.3 Prix de Fontainebleau, 8f, Longchamp
He ran 4th Gr.1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère (Grand Criterium), 8f, Longchamp, at 2
He shuttled to Australia for four seasons to Patinack Farm and his third crop of Australian bred foals are being offered at the yearling sales this year. Santa Ana Lane is from his first crop and French Fern is from his second crop.
The way the sire is performing on the Australian Sires Premiership, and the sharp increase in his Service Fee in Ireland to 45,000 euro, the fact he is not returning to Australia is now proving very disappointing.

Based upon his continual improving fortunes of his progeny, his yearling sales averages have jumped in 2016 from $47,333 in 2015 up to $78,023.
His success is no surprise to astute breeders and his deeds in the Northern Hemisphere at Ballylinch Stud in Ireland has seen the hot young sire become Champion First Crop Sire in Europe in 2014.
In his first year he sired 25 individual 2yo winners of 34 races in 2014 including 4 Group winners and European Champion 2yo BELARDO – Gr.1 Dewhurst Stakes and LR Washington Singer Stakes.
