Trainer Mark Newnham tasted his first Group 1 victory as did rider Rachel King and Sire SMART MISSILE when talented filly MAID OF HEAVEN stormed down the centre of the track to beat quality colts Aramayo and Thinkin' Big to win the Group 1 ATC Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.
MAID OF HEAVEN wins the Gr1 ATC Spring Champion Stakes
Industry experts and racing fans believed SMART MISSILE would sire his
first Group 1 winner this spring with his unbeaten filly SMART MELODY –
currently sitting at 5 starts: 5 wins, she’s the current favourite for
the Group 1 MRC Thousand Guineas, however the sensational sire with his
oldest progeny just turned 4yo’s didn't have to wait that long.
A maiden winner at Canterbury at her second start, Maid of Heaven contested the Group 2 ATC Tea Rose Stakes and Group 1 ATC Flight Stakes, finishing fifth and sixth behind the best fillies of her generation.
Stepping up in trip to 2000 metres for this assignment, she hit the line hard to beat Aramayo and win by along head aided by a magnificently timed ride by Rachel King.
Mark Newnham & Rachel King
It was a Group 1 first for the trainer, jockey and sire.
"I can't believe it," Newnham said.
"Obviously I was involved with plenty of Group 1 winners during my time with Gai (Waterhouse) but this is something else."
Jockey Rachel King is another graduate of Waterhouse's Tulloch Lodge.
The 28-year-old from English was on a working holiday in Australia when she started riding trackwork at Randwick. King had ridden 27 winners back in her homeland as an amateur on the flat and over the jumps.
Since starting race riding in Australia, Rachel has shot to prominence quickly.
She rode her first city winner in May last year and was crowned champion Sydney apprentice in July with 38 winners.

"It's amazing. A better feeling than I could ever have dreamed, and I've dreamed about this day a lot," King said.
"Mark was at Gai's when I first started there and he gave me a big push to start riding over here and have a go to give him his first Group 1 winner is very satisfying.
"He has never stopped supporting me the whole way through. I had my first Group Winner for him and now his first Group 1, it's very special."
Recorded as a $60,000 Inglis Classic purchase, MAID OF HEAVEN was bred by Arrowfield Stud and partners and runs in the Arrowfield colours. She is a half-sister to Group 3 winner Mirrasalo from Group 1 placed stakes-winning Dehere (USA) mare St Therese.
MAID OF HEAVEN is the seventh (7th) stakes-winner for SMART MISSILE and is his first Group 1 winner.
A Group 2 winning son of Fastnet Rock, Smart Missile started his career with Arrowfield Stud and stood there for six seasons before relocating to Twin Hills Stud this spring where he stands at a fee of $13,200.
This season SMART MISSILE has had 44 winners with earnings of over $1.7m including Stakes Horses:

He is currently in third (3rd) position on the Australian Sires Premiership for winners:
1st I AM INVINCIBLE 54/148,
2nd SNITZEL 45/155,
3rd SMART MISSILE 44/118
He is currently in 2nd position as a Sire of 3yo’s for both Earnings (to I AM INVINCIBLE) and Winners (to SNITZEL).
The trick with the breed is that they show something early however they come into their own as 3yo’s. A little patience and the start and the rewards are excellent.
Shortly, DYNAMIC SYNDICATIONS will release our final offer for 2018.
Our colt by SMART MISSILE x SERENADE LILY (NZ)
He is a spectacular colt by boom sire SMART MISSILE from SERENADE LILY (NZ).
His Dam SERENADE LILY (NZ) has produced 4 foals to race – 3 Winners & 1 placed.
SERENADE LILY (NZ) was a winner at 1500m.
SERENADE ROSE (8 wins) - Champion Australian 3yo including three time Gr1 Winner
She is a half-sister to three time Gr1 winner and Champion Australian 3yo SERENADE ROSE.
SERENADE LILY (NZ) is also a half-sister to Stakes Placed RONCHI and STAR OF TRALEE and to Outdoor (Dam of sp TREKKING), Fusaichi Rose (Dam of sp MAIN DANE) and to Pride of Tarlee (Dam of sp CRYSTAL FOUNTAIN).
OWNERS WANT WINNERS !
SMART MISSILE is the ultimate source for providing owners with this result from his first three seasons at stud and he is well in front again in his fourth season.
Add his dynamic results to a winning mare that has produced 4 foals to race for 3 winners and a placegetter, then facts and figures are certainly in your favour.
Our Colt by SMART MISSILE x SERENADE LILY in training 12 September 2018
Further add the fact that his Dam is a winning half-sister to a Champion Australian 3yo who won 3 Gr1 races, the family is commercially very strong.
Our Colt is bred on the excellent DANEHILL x KINGMAMBO cross which has been highly successful producing 35 stakes winners and earning an A+++ rating score.
Typical of the SMART MISSILE progeny is the fact that they are not natural 2yo’s but rather develop through their 2yo season to be at their best when they turn 3yo’s.
This is also the same situation with the female family of our colt.
This family shows tremendous ability once they turn 3yo’s and then go on with it as older horses.

Our colt looks to be built in the same mode and he will be in and out of training as a 2yo to ensure he has the necessary education and development to be a Spring 3yo prospect.
Dynamic Syndications offer a special colt with a tremendous opportunity to achieve racetrack success being trained by the legendary Australian HALL OF FAME Trainer GAI WATERHOUSE and ADRIAN BOTT.
