Dynamic Syndications recorded our 285th Win and our 53rd win for the 2011/12 racing season when 3yo gelding MASTERSTROKE in the care of Dynamic Syndications Warwick Farm based trainer Jason Coyle made an impressive statement at Kembla Grange sizzling over the 1000m on a Winter surface rated a Dead 4, to win race 2 the Southern Educational Services Class 1 Handicap. In doing so, MASTERSTROKE stopped the clock at 57:26 secs coming home the last 600m in a incredibly slick 32.95 for a sprint, let alone a sprint in the middle of Winter !
In fact, his last 600m was the fastest recorded Australasia wide on Saturday. This took in good tracks to heavy tracks at various venues across all states and NZ.
This was a terrific effort. Jockey Dale Spriggs rode the perfect race based upon years of experience which assisted in the tough win. However it was a battle right to the finish line against the consistently competitive 4yo Lonchero which challenged and tested MASTERSTROKE the whole length of the straight. With a massive 6.0kg pull in the weights, Lonchero was rallying hard down the outside however the class of MASTERSTROKE stood out and our 3yo dug deep, to score by a Long Head x 3.75 lengths in quick time. In fact the 57:26 was just 0.46 secs outside the class record.
Dale Spriggs came back to a happy team of owners. Reporting in, Dale advised "I had plenty in the tank but he's a funny horse. When we hit the front he wanted to stargazed" Dale said. "Then he waited until the runner-up came up to him before switching on and racing him again over the final 50m. I always had the other one covered, it was a good win." Dale reported. "He will be far better chasing than leading."
In the small field, MASTERSTOKE was heavily backed from $2.70 into starting a $2.10 favourite. Jumping well, he was in front as they landed out of the machines but it was our desire to get a trail on the back of the leaders. So Dale worked hard to get our horse to settle and come back under him after 200m and achieved the one / one sit from the 600m to well into the straight. Then Dale allowed MASTERSTOKE to roll off the heels of the leaders and in a blink, ran past these leaders, setting sail for home at the 300m. Lonchero was tracking on our back and gave chase and these two quickly gapped the others.
Being back on firmer footing is the secret to MASTERSTROKE. He is an absolute duffer on wet ground. However on firmer footing he showed his true ability. We have always considered him to be a city class galloper however he's been frustrating to connections because almost every race, the heavens have opened up dumping bucket loads and he has been forced to battle the mud.
MASTERSTROKE now has a career record of 14 starts: 2 wins, 3 seconds.
The prizemoney for winning was $12,250 + $5,000 BOBS Bonus. This takes his career earnings to $47,780. It was a nice way for connections to sign off on his 3yo year picking up a BOBS bonus.
The immediate future is to give MASTERSTROKE three weeks in the paddock and then a week at the water walker at Wild Oaks, before returning to Jason Coyle's stables in a month’s time. Then it will take 5 weeks to return to racing, taking us through to Late September / Early October. By then, the Spring weather should have growth in the grass tracks and he can run in the better weather conditions leading into early Summer. He certainly has the ability to add better races to his resume in the future.
Congratulations to our trainer Jason Coyle for a good racing season on the track. Jason trained a treble at Kembla on the day winning with MASTERSTROKE, DOROTHY'S DREAM and ANSHAR.
This has seen Jason record 22 wins for the season. Well Done Jason !
