Melbourne's leading trainer
PETER MOODY had Dynamic Syndications runner
MEDVEDEV in fantastic order for a race in Sydney at Canterbury Park on Wednesday afternoon and the horse didn’t let his owners, trainer or jockey down with an emphatic win of race 6 on the programme.
MEDVEDEV as a Yearling
Our 3yo gelding
MEDVEDEV (Commands ex Rossiya) was sent up to Peter Moody’s Rosehill stables 5 days earlier and settled in well. He was presented to the races in magnificent order.
Ridden perfectly to instruction by Sydney’s leading rider Hugh Bowman,
MEDVEDEV began well and rolled forward to take a prominent position after 150m before the second favourite Sergeant At Arms took up the lead and then another runner crossed over from out wide, allowing Hugh to get the perfect trail in the one / one spot. For the next 1200m the field remained in this leading formation and approaching the home turn, Hugh allowed
MEDVEDEV to come out 3 deep from behind the leading pair and once balanced,
MEDVEDEV was allowed more reign and the horse powered up to the front markers in a few strides and then extended the final 100m to record a dominant victory.
Staring $3.20 favourite and the designated market mover,
MEDVEDEV ran right up to his superb pre-race looks.
Photo Finish of MEDVEDEV winning race 6 at Canterbury Park
MEDVEDEV won race 6 on the programme the TAB.COM.AU Handicap over 1900m – a 3yo Benchmark 68 carrying 59.0kgs by 2 lengths over Sergeant At Arms (54.5kgs) ($4.00) with 1 length to Zar Zar Binks (57.0) ($6.50) in third position. They ran 2:02.37 for the 1900m coming home their final 600m in a very quick 36.68 secs on a Heavy 9 surface.
A delighted Hugh Bowman told TVN’s Richard Callendar that
MEDVEDEV was his first ever race win for the powerful Peter Moody stable. He told connections that he has a lot to learn but settled ok with a trail but was a nice horse with a bright future.
MEDVEDEV was a William Inglis Easter Sale Graduate purchased by Dynamic Syndications for just $55,000. He is proving a handy galloper already. His record is now:
10 Starts : 3 wins, 1 second, 1 third and $74,520 (includes a $10,000 BOBS Bonus).
MEDVEDEV despite his excellent race form, is still very much a “work in progress”. He is certainly getting better with age and race experience but continues to do plenty wrong in his races. The racing caper hasn’t quite been worked out at this stage by
MEDVEDEV and when the horse does work it out, he appears to have a handy future over the middle distance trips.
Trainer Peter Moody and his dedicated team at Moody Racing have done a wonderful job with
MEDVEDEV to achieve what we have already with such an awkward individual, so we can only imagine what he may furnish into next preparation.
MEDVEDEV was well placed in this event coming off the back of two luckless runs in Open Company 3yo events in Melbourne when a runner-up at Flemington and a third at Moonee Valley his past two starts. Having the luxury of dropping back from Open Company to a Benchmark 68 was a significant class drop and despite the big weight, he was well placed in this grade.
In the interim,
MEDVEDEV will stay in Sydney with several options available to him including a 1900m race at Rosehill Saturday week.
