A big
CONGRATULATIONS goes to the
Team of Loyal DYNAMIC Owners for their
5th WIN with their honest galloper
MESTALLA who scored with authority in Race 2 on the Sunshine Coast the Martin Jonkers Motors Bm 70 1400m on Sunday.
MESTALLA 6yo Gelding (Northern Meteor x Villa Valencia) was turned out in magnificent order and went to the post a
5/4 favourite on the strength of his previous 2 starts when running second on both occasions.
MESTALLA never gave his supporters any reason for concern in this Benchmark 70 Handicap on a Heavy 8 surface.
Trained to perfection by CHRIS MUNCE and rated perfectly by Jeff Lloyd, MESTALLA (57.5kg) won by 0.8 length x 2.8 lengths defeating Beaumaris (54.5kg) and Nearctic Chiller (55kg).
Tactically the race panned out as we had read it should on our speed maps and Jeff Lloyd rode the perfect race.
We expected that despite being a field of 7 runners, Unbowed and Nearctic Chiller would speed along in front at a quick tempo whilst the rest of the field would get back in the run. Both leaders on form didn’t look strong over the concluding stages and the trip for them was a concern especially on a Heavy track.
Having drawn barrier 1, tactically we wanted Jeff Lloyd to punch forward from the gates for the first 200m to make these leaders work hard to cross us and then when they did, we would drop anchor from the speed battle and track the pair whilst they worked hard in the lead. This would ensure they were soft at the business end of the race. On paper we perceived our only danger Beaumaris would be giving us a few lengths head start in transit, so on straightening we wanted to angle out towards the centre of the track and as soon as the horse was balanced, kick away at the and make Beaumaris have to catch us.
The race panned our perfectly to script.
MESTALLA kicked up from the jump to hold out the speed horses over the first furlong.
Then the two speed horses dug up to cross us and both worked far too hard and then wouldn’t settle for their riders with Unbowed racing to a 3 length lead over Nearctic Chiller who was 4 lengths in front of
MESTALLA.
At the 600m, Jeff Lloyd rolled off the fence as Unbowed started to yield and Nearctic Chiller moved up on its outside. Jeff had
MESTALLA sitting 2 lengths now off the back of Nearctic Chiller one off the fence.
As they swung for home, Jeff angled
MESTALLA off the heels of Nearctic Chiller and
MESTALLA was out towards the centre of the track. As they balanced Jeff pushed the
“GO BUTTON” and MESTALLA responded running to a 2 length lead. From the 200m the race was over so Jeff was kind to
MESTALLA in the run to the post.
Trainer
CHRIS MUNCE was full of praise for
MESTALLA as was Jeff Lloyd upon returning for his interview.
