Day 2 Summary KEENELAND YEARLING SALES - LEXINGTON, Sept. 13, 2017
A
Scat Daddy colt sold to Coolmore Stud's M.V. Magnier for $1.1 million less than two hours after the start of Wednesday's third session of the
Keeneland September Yearling Sale. The colt is the first foal out of the Tapit mare Orchard Beach.
"He's very lovely, looks like he's going to be a fast horse, very good mover, he's all quality," Magnier said.
“I would say most likely the colt will go to Europe. It's a lot of money for a horse. But he's by the right sire that everybody wants, so I suppose he was he was entitled to it."
Next a
Quality Road colt full brother to Group 2 winner Blofield also sold to M.V. Magnier and White Birch Farm for $1 million. He was a son of a stakes-winning Storm Cat mare.
A colt from the first crop of champion Will Take Charge sold for $975,000. He was a half-brother to 2017 Group 2 winner Hunter O’Riley. The dam is the Bernardini mare Obglige.
“The colt just stood like a statue, did everything right throughout the whole process. He checked all the boxes. Having a group stakes-winning half-brother Hunter O'Riley helped, but it was mainly about the individual, and he reminded the buyer a lot of Will Take Charge himself. We'll hope for the best."
The highest priced filly in Session 3 was for a daughter of Pioneer of the Nile sold for $825,000. She is out of the stakes-winning Bernardini mare R Gypsy Gold.
Shadwell Estate paid $750,000 for a War Front yearling, a colt from the family of Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Giacomo. The colt is out of the Group 3-winning Empire Maker mare Stanwyck.
