MULTIPLE Group 1 winning mare
MORE JOYOUS and her travelling companion More Strawberries, seem unlikely to have any other mares joining them on the sojourn to England this week for a southern hemisphere mating with 2012 world champion Frankel.
MORE JOYOUS
Owner John Singleton took two bookings with the unbeaten English superstar.
The stud where Frankel stands in England is Banstead Manor Stud in Newmarket. They have allowed a limited number of mares to be covered to Southern Hemisphere time, however it appears those mares are all maiden or empty mares based in Europe that will be covered and then sent to Australia. Therefore More Joyous will most certainly be the best credentialed mare to be covered by the super sire.
Frankle has just concluded his first season at stud in the Northern Hemisphere where he covered a full book.
Singo's Racing Manager Duncan Grimley said "She has been the horse you dream about as a breeder, one that is bought up on your farm and raced at the highest level in your colours and never lets you down."
Retirement was the logical decision for More Joyous after her stellar career was ended in controversy.
“It was always going to be a tough decision but the time was right, so she retires without breaking down, which was very important to John," Grimley said.
"We are taking the opportunity to go to Frankel because John wants to bred to the best.”
SINGO & NASH
“She has been an incredible mare to Singo with 20 of 21 wins coming at stakes level. She won eight group 1 races, which sits third in the modern era to Black Caviar and Sunline.”
More Joyous will unfortunately be remembered far more for her final start in the All Aged Stakes, where she finished second last, than her eight Group 1 wins.
Singo’s outburst before and after the race, alleging inside knowledge of problems with More Joyous' fitness, made headlines across the nation.
Singleton said he wasn't aware of any concerns until raceday when friends started to call him. It turned into a circus in front of stewards, which included NRL immortal Andrew Johns and colourful racing identity Eddie Hayson, and soured Singleton's friendship with trainer Gai Waterhouse.
He was fined $15,000 for bringing racing into disrepute while Gai Waterhouse was fined $5,500 for failing to keep proper records and reporting a condition to stewards that could affect performance before last month's All Aged Stakes. The drama with Waterhouse and the stewards continues to be dragged out. Further the Stewards have changed the Local Rules of Racing and introduced LR110 A & B to stamp out insider trading and conflicts of interest between wagering operators and licenced persons.
Reviewing what the likely outcome of this mating would be, the Frankel / More Than Ready cross would be very interesting. More Than Ready / Sadler's Wells has worked well (Sadler's Wells is a reverse cross to Southern Halo, the sire of More Than Ready).
Galileo, the sire of Frankel, is out of a mare by Miswaki, who is not only a three-quarters relative to Woodman (broodmare sire of More Than Ready), but also from the family of Southern Halo.
Whilst More Than Ready has done very well with Danehill, the broodmare sire of Frankel.
Overall you would anticipate that if the stars align, it is probable that the resultant foal could add valuable black type to the pedigree page.
HIGH CHAPARRAL ex COOGEE CROWN Filly with CHRIS WALLER
Dynamic Syndications have remained interested in the More Joyous developments as we have recently finished a syndication of a filly with Champion Trainer Chris Waller by High Chaparral ex Coogee Crown, which made our filly a very close relation to the Champion mare More Joyous
DENISE'S JOY
as they both share Denise’s Joy as the third dam.
