A CHAMPION SIRE in both hemispheres with
118 stakes winners on his resume,
MORE THAN READY achieved rare
dual Gr1 Success over the weekend, firstly as a sire of the brilliant mare
SAMAREADY in the MOIR Stakes and secondly, as the Broodmare Sire of the impressive winner
REBEL DANE in the SIR RUPERT CLARKE.
MORE THAN READY - SUPER SIRE
REBEL DANE joins
BLUE DIAMOND Winner
MIRACLES OF LIFE as both being
Gr1 winners from
MORE THAN READY mares.
A long rehabilitation process achieved the ultimate reward for Samaready (More Than Ready – Samar, by Secret Savings) when she raced away with the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.
Samaready had one run in the 72 weeks after her third in the 2012 Golden Slipper after a hindquarter injury derailed her three-year-old season but her trainer Mick Price heaped praise upon Vinery Stud general manager Peter Orton’s effort to help her back to the track.
“Peter Orton has done a good job with her after she hurt her hindquarter,” Price said.
“He wouldn’t let her out of Vinery and we had to be patient with her but I was really glad we were left alone to make our own decisions with her.”
Samaready had notched an impressive win in the Group 3 Heath Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on August 31, which left Price keen to take on the likes of and Bel Sprinter in the newly-promoted Group 1 event.
The daughter of champion Vinery shuttle stallion More Than Ready raced off the pace for the first 800 metres before launching her bid with a sharp move forward to join the front-runners rounding the home turn.
Buffering hit the front yet again in a Group 1 race but he was no match for Samaready’s powerful finishing burst as the brilliant mare cast him aside by four lengths to add the Moir Stakes to her Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes win in 2012.
“The (Group 3) mares’ race last week (at Caulfield) was tempting but when you get a good horse, you don’t like to take a backward step so we thought we’d have a crack here,” Price said.
Samaready’s trainer and owners have shown plenty of patience in getting the mare back to her best following an injury.
“It was a really brave, valiant win from the mare. She’s come back as a four-year-old and she’ll be back for the (Group 1) Manikato (Stakes on October 25) but it was really great to see her physically look well and hit the line really well.”
“I’m just really rapt she can race in this company and race properly. She ran away with the race and 1200 is a beautiful distance for her.”
The victory was her second success at Group 1 level, having taken out the MRC Blue Diamond Stakes as a 2yo last year.
More Than Ready's hugely talented sprinter Samaready exploded back to her best at Group 1 level in Melbourne on Friday night.
The Moir victory took Samaready’s racetrack earnings to $1,584,800, a fantastic return on the $150,000 paid by her owners at the 2011 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, where she was offered by breeder Gerry Harvey amongst Vinery Stud’s draft. The $270,000 winner’s cheque took her prizemoney tally to more than $1.58 million
With six wins from just eight career starts, the four-year-old is only lightly raced and her regular jockey has no doubts there is more to come from Samaready.
“She has been a very good racehorse to me. She was pretty arrogant tonight, she won with a lot in hand,” said jockey Craig Newitt.
"She just travelled beautifully. I just had to give her clear room and when I asked her, she exploded,'' Newitt declared.
He said he knew after her work on Monday that she was "ready to explode".
"It was the best feeling she's given me in a long time.”
"To come away and win with that arrogance, she's something special."
Samaready is now likely to aim at the Group 1 double of the Manikato Stakes on October 25 and the Patinack Classic on November 9 at Flemington.
MORE THAN READY on target to be a CHAMPION BRODMARE SIRE
Vinery super sire
More Than Ready's stocks as a broodmare sire continue to soar with a third stakes winner arriving a fortnight ago in the shape of
Impetuous.
However it was Sunday’s SIR RUPERT CLARKE results which added another Gr1 success for the Champion Sire having already achieved this result being the Broodmare Sire of last season’s Blue Diamond Winner – Miracles Of Life.
REBEL DANE is by
CALIFORNIA DANE (a son of Danehill) from
Texacarna (by More Than Ready)
Impetuous win of the Mona Lisa joins Blue Diamond winner Miracles of Life and now fellow Gr1 winner Rebel Dane under the names of Stakes Winners from More Than Ready mares.
It's a similarly encouraging tale in the USA where More Than Ready mare More Than Pretty delivered the Champion mare
Kauai Katie.
Buyers are now in no doubt as to More Than Ready's strengths as a broodmare sire is matching his success as a sire of racehorses.
