Dynamic Sire, ENCOSTA DE LAGO has again put in another big month of siring winners with 25 victories coming in the last 30 days of racing. Encosta De Lago has stamped him hoof down as Australasia’s leading sire in recent years and has what can only be looked at as a remarkable record. For four consecutive years, between the 2007-08 and 2010-11 seasons, he was the leading stallion across our racing zones (Australia, NZ, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Macau & South Africa) siring a total of 61 stakes winners for just shy of $55m in prizemoney. There are only a handful of stallions that finish their careers with such impressive stats so to achieve these number in only four years is virtually unbelievable. When you compare him to all living sires in Australasia over the past 5 years he’s produced; more progeny earnings, more group winners and more Gr1 winners than any other living sire!
Encosta De Lago at Stud
ENCOSTA DE LAGO continued his fine form in the 2011-12 season siring 14 individual stakes winners and a further 21 stakes placed horses for over $11m in stakes earnings across of racing zones. He finished 2nd in the leading sire table only to be knocked off by boom sire Fastnet Rock who stands for $220,000 compared to $82,500 for this champion sire.
Looking at the current season, we have seen more of the same for this champion racehorse and stallion! Adding to the 25 winners that he has had in the last 30 days, ENCOSTA DE LAGO’s tally now sits at 78 individual winners since the season started on August 1st. Among these winners was CHAMPAGNE DAYS, a full brother to our Encosta De Lago – Petta Gaye gelding who is progressing through the grades nicely in Hong Kong. ENCOSTA DE LAGO’s dominance looks set to continue for some years which is great news for Dynamic and their clients as we have an opportunity that is not to be missed.
Dynamic Syndications and Chris Waller are once again teaming up to race a fantastic ENCOSTA DE LAGO colt out of a half-sister to champion racehorse and mare, HORLICKS. The mare, PETTA GAYE has had five foals to race for a total of four winners and we anticipate seeing her fifth winner on the track in a matter of months from our classy colt. What is more exciting about this colt is that we already know he can run and you can see it to (see video below)!
Dynamic Syndications pride themselves on giving our clients every chance to win the big races which gave us a new idea with this colt and two others (NORTHERN METEOR – VILLA VALENCIA, MAGIC ALBERT – BADINOV’S BABE) for 2012. We purchased three colts at the Magic Millions sales in January of 2012 and were extremely happy with what we had bought. Chris Waller had seen all three colts that we purchased at the sale and immediately expressed an interest in training them. After careful consideration, Dynamic were more than happy to leave these horses in the care of Chris however we started to devise a plan that would be completely new in Syndication. Upon consultation with Chris, an idea was formed to show the world how good our colts actually were by running them at the Ready to Run Sale in New Zealand later in the year before bringing them back to Syndicate. This would immediately give a distinct advantage to potential clients as they would be able to see how good their horse was before purchasing a share. This was a new, fresh approach to Syndication which has not been tried before but certainly puts the owner in the box seat. Before we made a firm decision on the matter, we needed the approval of our all members within the Dynamic team.
Our Encosta De Lago colt when originally purchased at the Magic Millions sale
We first heard good news from Olympic Silver Medallist and the man in charge of breaking in our horses, Shane Rose. Shane informed us as soon as our horse had undergone their initial education process that we had three colts well above average. This immediately put the smiles on our face as we knew that we had three quality animals for our Dynamic clients however the work was not complete yet. After leaving Bimbadeen Park and Shane Rose, these colts arrived at our Pre-training facilities at Wild Oaks farm where expert pre-trainer Hinnerk Hüppe first got to glance his eye over the colts. He was immediately impressed and informed all of us here at Dynamic that we should be very happy with our purchases as they felt brilliant undersaddle.
When we ran the plans past both Shane and Hinnerk, they were full of praise for the idea and encouraged us to do so. Hinnerk and Shane both thought that the colts could go for big money at the sales (which we were offered) but we had already committed to bringing them back for our own clients. We were not about to let these cracking colts leave our barn especially after the positive reports we had received.
The final decision was only made once Chris had been out to see the colts again at Wild Oaks and he was impressed with what he saw. With the blessing of all members of the team, we sent them across to New Zealand to be put through the Ready to Run process. We had no intension of ever selling our three colts despite receiving bids of up to NZ$220,000 as the plan was to syndicate all of these horses individually back in Australia. Our plan was to show the world the ability that these three colts had before even going into to full time work at the stables of Chris Waller.
The ENCOSTA DE LAGO – PETTA GAYE colt was particularly impressive breezing up in a time of 10.67s over the 200m journey at Te Rapa racetrack. Our colt recorded a significantly better time than the average of 10.85s over the two days of breeze ups. The feats of this particular colt are extremely impressive as he is bred to be a middle distance to staying type prospect yet still recorded a time that beat home many of the well-bred sprinters at the sale. Dynamic Managing Director Dean Watt purchased this horse with the aim to win a Derby and the early signs from the breeze ups are extremely encouraging.
