Dynamic Syndications didn’t score at the New Zealand Premier Sale session at Karaka but we remained in the hunt for a Kiwi bred horse as the Select Sale session at Karaka.
We have been successful purchasing a magnificent filly on Day 2 of the Select Sale – Lot 729.
She is a daughter of SAVABEEL from the PINS mare SWAROVSKI.
She was knocked down to Dynamic Syndications / Gai Waterhouse Racing for NZD $70,000 + GST.
We thought we would be capable of adding a well-bred, well conformed Kiwi middle distance - staying prospects however the market was just a little strong and as Dynamic followers know, we will never pay over market valuation for any of our purchases.
Our Managing Director Dean Watt is a Member of the Bloodstock Agents Federation of Australia. Dean is qualified in offering market appraisals on all thoroughbreds.
Dean knows exactly where the market should be on every yearling, based upon a specific formulas that are applied.
At the Premier Sale over the first 2 days, we bid upon only 7 yearlings that we believed were staying prospects, worthy of becoming
Dynamic Syndications yearlings and then heading into the
Gai Waterhouse stables.
It was an interesting phenomenon to watch the machinations of this yearling sale in full flight. Often logic is the first casualty.
Frustratingly, we were
the direct under bidder on 2 of these yearlings: (missing out to Peter Moody and Paul Moroney). Both men are exceptionally good judges with big budgets. It always hurts a little to miss out on what we have identified, having done all the hard work to find these gems but we do set strict price limits and with the high quality yearlings we seek, missing out regularly happens in a sale.
What is most astonishing is where
logic is replaced by ego and as a result, prices skyrocket. On the other 5 of the yearlings we were keen to secure, this turned out to be the case. We were not in the hunt with these.
The Select Sale is held over three days and having studied all the catalogued lots, we had a list of just
15 yearlings within this catalogue that, based upon
pedigree genetics and commercialism, we were interested in obtaining.
From this list
our inspection team of Gary Mudgway and vet Dr. John Walker slashed their way through the list, eventually whittling it down to
just one (1) lot which had the
conformation and athleticism to match its commercialism and genetics.
She was mid-way through the second day of the
Select Sale so we sat out the first day patiently waiting for the filly. The wait was worth the effort as we were able to grab this filly at what we considered we would need to go into triple figures to secure.
More Details to follow.
