Backed for a stack and delivering as a good thing should, there is no doubt the future looks bright for 2yo colt COSMIC FORCE (Deep Field x Little Zetta) after he toyed with his peers to make a Winning Debut over the 900m trip at Newcastle on Saturday.
Ridden by Mitchel Bell, COSMIC FORCE jumped away cleanly to land in front as the barriers crashed back with Foxy Rocket pushing up ander hard riding to claim the fence and this duo out sped their rivals over the first 400m.
Being allowed time to remain balanced as the field swung around the home turn and into the straight Mitchel Bell didn’t hit the go button until the 250m mark where the colt responded ultra-professionally. He clicked into another gear and was never in danger as he was given an easy time over the final 100m defeating Blazing Miss by three-quarters of a length with Stralex back in third.
It seems assured that as the distances increase COSMIC FORCE will be better suited.
COSMIC FORCE was an $180,000 purchase by China Horse Club Racing / Newgate Farm / WinStar from the 2018 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
COSMIC FORCE’S sire DEEP FIELD was a record-breaking sprinter that won five of his eight starts. Deep Field just like Zoustar, is by Northern Meteor who was the Champion Australian First Season Sire in 2013 and comes from the family of top-class sires Commands and Danewin.
A brother to Shooting To Win, Deep Field has been one of Australia’s most popular stallions. Standing at Newgate Farm at a fee of $22,000 he has covered over 200 mares on average in his first three seasons at stud.
It was interesting to note that astute Newgate Farm Managing Director Henry Field purchased into the colt as a yearling on behalf of his company.
If anyone should know which are the better ones to take an equity stake in as a yearling, it would be the breeder who stands the stallion and has had the opportunity to see all the Deep Field progeny.
