Widden Stud's record breaking sprinter Northern Meteor posted his first winner when talented colt Ticket to Toorak scored an impressive debut win at Ballarat on Thursday.
The Matt Williams trained colt raced greenly throughout settling at the rear of the five horse field before charging home late to win the $30,000 juvenile event by a neck defeating a short price favourite. Winning rider Jamie Mott had to earn his money to get the best from the youngster, but believes he is a very smart horse in the making.
Northern Meteor has his first winner on Thursday
"He's still very green and did everything wrong today, but was still good enough to win," Mott said. "When he puts it altogether, he's going to be a serious horse."
Ticket to Toorak became the first winner for Northern Meteor, who featured at Flemington on Derby Day in 2008 when he captured the Group I Coolmore Stud Stakes. He has already been in high demand for next breeding season and the son of champion sire Encosta de Lago stands at a fee of $33,000.
It is no surprise for us here at Dynamic to see Northern Meteor’s offspring come out and produce the goods on track. We are sure to see more of the Northern Meteor brigade over the coming months as his first season crop was an impressive bunch of individuals. Dynamic were particularly impressed by the Northern Meteor crop which led us to purchasing a lovely filly by the former Gr1 winning sprinter.
Our filly, who has been since been named REPARTEE, is out of winning mare COMEDY CLUD. She has produced 2 to race for a winner and is a half-sister to Stakes winner Bleveeka and Stakes placed gelding Tora Tora Tora . Our filly is bred to be a 2yo runner and has commenced work with leading trainer, Peter Moody.
Repartee seen here as a yearling
She is very closely related to our Peter Moody Trained Group 1 Blue Diamond Winner REWARD FOR EFFORT, Magic Millions Winner CATNIPPED as well as other outstanding performed 2yo’s JOKERS WILD, MISS PROSPECT and SISTER HAVANA.
The other significant advantage that Repartee has is that she was the first Northern Meteor foal to be born anywhere in the world. She has a lovely early foaling date of the 5th of August which allows her more time to mature especially when being targeted at 2yo racing.
The Northern Meteor variety is sure to attract plenty of attention in the upcoming sales both in New Zealand at the Ready to Run sales and into the New Year. He has three lots that are being sold at the Ready to Run sale at Karaka on November 20 and 21. The pick of the bunch is a Northern Meteor – Villa Valencia colt that is closely related to Golden Slipper winner Polar Success and looked very comfortable breezing up in a time of 10.63 for 200m.
Make sure you keep an eye out for Northern Meteor’s progeny as they continue to hit the track. There is big things expected of this young stallion and we are sure that it won’t be long before we see his first stakes success. For more information on our Northern Meteor filly, Repartee, stay tuned to the website for updates as she progresses towards her first race start.
