Our second purchase on Day 3 and our 5th and final purchase for the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale was Lot 404 a stunning colt by REDOUTE’S CHOICE.
He had been admired by
Team Dynamic & Gai Waterhouse and when we sat down for our meeting prior to the commencement of the sale, it was clear to both parties that
Lot 404 was a high priority for both of us.
So again Dynamic and Gai joined forces and the result was that we purchased a magnificent son of
"Australia's Best Sire" who will be heading to Randwick to join the powerful and highly professional
Gai Waterhouse Racing Stables.
A spectacular looking Colt with a stallion’s pedigree, he combines athleticism with commerciality and the clean vet report ensures our team could buy him with confidence.
We then add in the fact the Colt is just the second live foal from a General Nediym mare who has produced her first foal to win by more than 4 lengths last Saturday and now she is being aimed at the Black Type races in the next few weeks, this was a catalyst giving us great optimism.
We then add in to the equation that this Colt upon our genetic rating systems was an
A+++ rating with a High-Quality rating score of 8/10 and we add to this equation the fact this yearling also scored
a BEST OF SALE rating of 1.5. So this made the Colt a high priority.
Next we add to the mix the pedigree - both from an aspect of its commercial appeal to the marketplace and it's highly desirable recent pedigree updates.
Finally, we add the most influential aspect of desirability to our team - he was a foal share!
A foal share is where the breeder enters a joint venture with the stud farm. The breeder offers a desirable mare and the stud agrees to serve the mare without charge - but both parties own the resultant foal. That horse must be sold "unreserved" as a yearling where both parties will split the sale proceeds 50/50.
This is fantastic for professional buyers as we are aware that there is no reserve price. The horse is on the market from the opening bid. This ensures transparency into the market and no over inflated reserves.
As a result the market determines the value not the vendor.
In this particular instance, a Colt we had valued at $140,000 - $150,000 would become Dynamic for just $80,000 and represent a true sale-ring steal.
About his Pedigree:
By REDOUTE'S CHOICE - Australia's Best Sire with over 820 winners and 127 Stakes Winners.
From TRIPLED (by General Nediym) - we have purchased her second live foal. Her first foal is named
TRIPLE EFFORT and is a winner. According to press reports she is being aimed at some stakes races in Adelaide over the next few weeks.
TRIPLE HONOUR - AJC Doncaster Winner
TRIPLED is a 1/2 Sister to outstanding racehorse - TRIPLE HONOUR (by Honours List). A winner of 7 races -3 at 2- 1100m to 2200m and $2,221,960 inc AJC Doncaster Gr1, BRC Eagle Farm Cup Gr2, STC Premier S, Gr2, 2d ATC Queen Elizabeth S., Gr1, Randwick Guineas Gr1, etc.
TRIPLED is also 1/2 Sister to last weekend’s 2yo Stakes Winner in NZ - HEROIC VALOUR.
TRIPLED is a grand-daughter of Gr2 Winner SAN PAULI GIRL herself a half-sister to Stakes Winner CAPADAN.
Relating to HEROIC VALOUR, last weekend owners of Australian bred juvenile HEROIC VALOUR, winner of the Listed Reid & Harrison Slipper (1200m) at Matamata, advised that have Group 1 ambitions for their Colt.
Heroic Valour (by Fastnet Rock) is a half-brother to Doncaster winner Triple Honour and Tripled – (dam of our Redoute’s Choice colt). He improved his record to two wins from two starts when defeating Mongolian Falcon and Gasoline.
The first three across the line in the stakes race were all bred in Australia, with Mongolian Falcon also by Fastnet Rock and Gasoline by Pluck.
Heroic Valour, who was purchased for $400,000 at the 2015 Karaka Premier Yearling Sale from the Curraghmore Stud draft, is being aimed at the Group 1 Diamond Stakes at Ellerslie on March 12 before the Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes in April.
“He will then go for a spell and is a horse you will see at Riccarton in November for the 2000 Guineas,” his owner said.
His owners must like what they see in Heroic Valour, considering they paid $510,000 for his full-brother at the Karaka Premier Yearling Sale this year.
The mare missed to Fastnet Rock in 2014 and was served by Zoffany in 2015.
Heroic Valour raced outside the leader in the Listed Reid & Harrison Slipper before kicking strongly in the straight and holding off Mongolian Falcon.
5% shares in this sensational colt are only $9,350 including ALL COSTS to 1 September 2016 and then, ongoing training costs average out to $8.20 per day.
