There were some impressive performances over the weekend of racing but none more so than that of the new Golden Slipper favourite, OVERREACH. The 2yo Exceed and Excel filly was ultra-impressive gapping an A-grade field of juveniles in the LR Widden Stakes to win by 5 ¾ lengths in a canter. Overreach never looked in doubt from start to finish as she jumped straight to the lead and made ever post a winner doing it relatively untested. She ran a race record time of 1 min 4.21seconds in a simply outstanding performance. This was over a second quicker that Never Can Tell ran in the colts version of the race in the Canonbury Stakes.
OVERREACH winning the LR Widden Stakes at Rosehill
Overreach is from BAHAI (Snippets – Miss Prospect by Rory’s Jester) making her a ¾ sister to Dynamic Blue Diamond winner Reward For Effort. Bahai was an unbeaten winner of 4 races for Overreach’s trainer Gai Waterhouse. It would not be difficult to predict the family’s winning numbers increasing significantly over the coming months. Overreach is also a ¾ sister in blood to Dynamic's MANHATTAN RAIN - MISS EXCELLENCE filly who we are currently syndicating . She is bred for 2yo speed and will be trained at Rosehill by Chris Waller.
After finishing 2nd in her only race start prior in Melbourne, Overreach revelled running the Sydney way of going and was on another level to this classy field of fillies. Dynamic jockey Tommy Berry jumped off the filly after riding her to victory and couldn’t find a fault.
“Everyone asks me to compare horses to Karuta Queen and Driefontein and she just blew them away.” Berry said beaming from ear to ear post-race.
“She is definitely the best two-year-old I've ridden and the best horse I've ridden.” A big wrap from a dual Gr1 winning jockey in outstanding form.
This comes as no surprise to the team at Dynamic as she is an extremely well related filly that ticks all the boxes that are needed to be a successful 2yo. As mentioned previously, she is a ¾ sister to Dynamic’s own enigmatic 2yo stakes winner REWARD FOR EFFORT. On track, Reward for Effort was an excellent 2yo winning multiple stakes races including the Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes before training on and having more stakes success as a three and four year old. Secondly, both Overreach and Reward for Effort are by champion 2yo sire EXCEED AND EXCEL who is having yet another stellar season as a sire.
REWARD FOR EFFORT was a Dynamic Gr1 winner for Exceed and Excel
The multiple champion sire is once again on top of the 2yo sires premiership with six individual winners for the season among nine victories total. Of these six winners, four have won at stakes level with five black type victories overall. Progeny by Exceed and Excel dominate the Blue Diamond and Golden Slipper markets with the Darley trio, KUROSHIO, GUELPH and SAFEGUARD all featuring heavily in the betting for the feature 2yo races as well as Overreach.
Adding to Exceed and Excel’s classy list of 2yos is impressive filly CAMPORELLA who won the Magic Millions Perth Classic at Ascot over the weekend. Camporella overcame the widest starting gate in a field of 14 to outdo her rivals and take home the $142,500 first prize and the title of Perth Magic Millions champion of 2013.
Exceed and Excel is a sire who continues to perform at the top level year after year and this season is once again no different. This World Champion 2YO sire has now sired 61 Stakes Winners and has the rare distinction of achieving success as a sire in both hemispheres at the highest level including Reward For Effort and HELMET in Australia and EXCELLEBRATION and MARGOT DID in Europe. With the plethora of stakes quality 2yos that he has in his arsenal, it will be no surprise to see his progeny come out and do a clean sweep of the Autumn 2yo races. Overreach, Kuroshio, Guelph, Safeguard and Camporella all look to be at the top of their games. We expect plenty more stakes success from Exceed and Excel in the near future.
EXCEED AND EXCEL at Stud
At this early stage, Overreach does look to be the pick of an impressive bunch of Exceed and Excel’s juveniles with the bookies installing her a $5 favourite for the Golden Slipper in early April. If she were to come out and win the Gr1 Golden Slipper, this would be amazing news for all of the Dynamic Team as Overreach is a ¾ sister in blood to the current Dynamic Syndication, MANHATTAN RAIN – MISS EXCELLENCE filly.
Dynamic's own MANHATTAN RAIN - MISS EXCELLENCE filly up for Syndication
Dynamic is currently syndicating this cracking filly with shares starting at $8,625 for a 5% share with all prices inclusive up until the 30th of June, 2013.
Dynamic have had a great association with Exceed and Excel and will be on the lookout for more quality 2yo types at the upcoming sales. With the Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale beginning today as well as the Inglis Premier, Inglis Easter and Adelaide Magic Millions sales all on in the coming months, Dynamic are confident that we can find another top Exceed and Excel filly to bring into our team.
Keep an eye on the website over the coming months to track to progress of both Overreach and Exceed and Excel. We congratulate all the connections in Overreach for their stakes victory on Saturday and hope to see her go on to bigger and better things over the Autumn carnival.
