OVERREACH (Exceed and Excel – Bahia) has opened up a commanding favourite for the LR Widden Stakes for 2yo fillies on the weekend. Bookmakers have opened her up as a $2.50 favourite to win the juvenile event after her commanding 6 length trial win at Rosehill in January. Overreach has only had one start to date where she finished second in the LR Inglis Debutant Stakes at Caulfield behind current Golden Slipper favourite Villa Verde. The daughter of Exceed and Excel however looks to have come on leaps and bounds since her first start and the wraps are big on this impressive filly.
Overreach will line up at Rosehill on the weekend
Respected Randwick trackman Craig Tompson explained that Overreach is the best Randwick based Golden Slipper prospect. Overreach went through her paces on Saturday morning in preparation for her first-up run. She worked on the Randwick ‘B grass’ and covered 600 metres in 35.5 seconds with the last 200 metres of the gallop run in 11.5.
Tompson was of the opinion that Overreach is clearly above any other 2yo that he has seen galloping around Randwick this season. Her track gallop on Saturday against fellow 2yo Whittington was further proof that this was the case.
"They are the best two two-year-olds (at Randwick) and I’d say Overreach looks a bit ahead of the other one at this stage but Whittington is quite big still,” Tompson said.
"Overreach galloped away from Whittington on Saturday. Overreach is (Gai’s) best two-year-old.”
This is great news for Dynamic Syndications as our MANHATTAN RAIN – MISS EXCELLENCE filly which has just gone up for Syndication is very closely related to the promising Overreach. Our filly is out of MISS EXCELLENCE who in turn is out of the stakes winning mare, MISS PROSPECT. Miss Prospect was a wonderful producing mare getting 8 to the track all of whom won including Dynamic’s own 2yo Gr1 winner REWARD FOR EFFORT, multiple stakes winner CONSULAR and city winner BAHIA. BAHIA is now enjoying her time in the breeding barn and has already one horse to race. This filly (by Exceed and Excel) is the ultra-impressive OVERREACH.
Our Manhattan Rain - Miss Excellence filly
Breeding plays a crucial part in all racing as Managing Director of Dynamic Syndications, Dean Watt has learnt in over 30 years being involved in the horse racing industry. Dynamic had already recognised the potential of this family when we purchased REWARD FOR EFFORT to win the Gr1 Blue Diamond as a 2yo. Our filly looks to have genuine 2yo speed and like the closely related Overreach should have plenty of residual value when she eventually heads to stud at the end of her racing career. If she is to impress on the track and win at stakes level as Overreach is endeavoring to do on the weekend, then her stud value is set to sky rocket.
Well-bred 2yos who can get up and run early are hard to find unless you do your due diligence work and find the proven crosses that work. We know that our Manhattan Rain – Miss Excellence filly is bred on a cross that works with the Encosta De Lago – Danehill cross producing 13 individual stakes winners including Gr1 winners Aloha and Delago Deluxe. Her pedigree rating score was an A+ 1,355% with a Q6 quality rating putting her in the BEST OF SALE category. OVERREACH was bred on the Exceed and Excel – Snippets Cross with a pedigree rating of A++ 2,208% and a Q6 quality rating. Both fillies are impeccably bred and already had a huge advantage before reaching the track.
A victory to Overreach would be another big plus for our Manhattan Rain – Miss Excellence filly as her residual value would again increase with another 2yo stakes winner on the page. It would also show more proof of how the pedigree system works and continues to produce stakes winner after stakes winner. We wish the best of luck to Overreach and her connections on the weekend and hopefully she can come out and earn some more black type.
