Trainer Richard Laming says his promising filly
PAYROLL has come back bigger and stronger and should be in for a good spring campaign, which she will kick off this weekend.
PAYROLL on debut
The daughter of
Not A Single Doubt ex WORKHARD by RED RANSOM is set to resume after a three-month break in the
Listed Cap D'Antibes Stakes (1100 metres) at Flemington on Saturday, with Dwayne Dunn to take the ride from barrier 15.
Laming said the three-year-old had
returned to work in great fashion and he looked forward to seeing what she could achieve during the spring.
PAYROLL winning on debut
“I couldn’t be happier with her at the moment,” he said.
“She had a good gallop last week at Moonee Valley with Dwayne on board with stablemate Refectory, and I was thrilled with how she went.
“She’s strengthened up since her last prep and has developed into a really nice filly.
“She’s come back bigger and stronger and has improved, so with a bit of luck we should be in for a good campaign.
“Saturday will be her first time down the Flemington straight, so it’s always a bit tricky to know how they’ll go and whether they’ll adapt, and there are some nice types in the race, but it will be a good stepping stone at the least for what’s ahead.”
Payroll was a dominant winner at Sale on debut in March demolishing subsequent Stakes Winner The Barrister, before a trip to Adelaide where she finished fifth by just over a length in the Group 3 Campolina Stud Breeders' Stakes after a luckless run.
The filly was then runner-up by a head to Black Vanquish in the Listed Thoroughbred Club Cup, she firmed into favourite for the Gr1 J.J. Atkins on the strength of the run, however after a lacklustre performance in the Group 2 Sires’ Produce Stakes at Doomben, the stable elected to spell the filly with the rich Spring Carnival in mind.
Currently a first acceptor for the Gr1 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600 metres) and the Group 1 Cox Plate, Laming said they were hoping the filly would be a
prominent figure during the spring.
“We’ll take each race as it comes, but after we get over Saturday she’ll likely head to the Guineas Prelude,” Laming said.
“She’ll obviously have to perform there to warrant a run in the Guineas but that’s the target for her at this stage.
“She absolutely deserves to be looking down those paths. She’s the real deal.”
The Teams at
Dynamic Syndications and Gai Waterhouse Racing will be watching on with interest how
Payroll performs over the next few months.
Our COLT - by SNITZEL ex WORKHARD is a 3/4 brother to PAYROLL
We have a 2yo Snitzel three-quarter brother to PAYROLL – the second foal of the Red Ransom mare WORKHARD.
A magnificent individual, he has broken-in like a superstar and is a stallion prospect in the making.
So naturally if Payroll can continue on an upward spiral the commercial value of our colt grows accordingly.
In pre-training - Our COLT SNITZLE-WORKHARD is on the inside of his Dynamic stablemate PUB GRUB
Especially with the colt in the care of the Lady Trainer and Hall Of Fame Champion Trainer – GAI – the greatest trainer of 2yo’s in Australia, the opportunities are endless.
Adam Watt - Gai Waterhouse - Dean Watt
Whilst the 1100m may be a bit short tomorrow, it’s interesting to note that
Payroll is one of only two 3yo fillies still entered for the Cox Plate.
5% ownership shares in our 2yo Snitzel / Workhard colt with GAI are $10,950.
