Dynamic Syndications are off the mark for the new 2013-14 Racing Season in emphatic fashion after
PERPLEXITY (4yo g Lonhro / Secret Haze) easily accounted for his 12 other rivals in race 4 over 1400m, the Cleary Bros P/L Maiden Plate at Kembla Grange on Saturday 17/8/13 for trainer Chris Waller.
PERPLEXITY won by 3.8 lengths x 1.5 lengths having overcome barrier 13 of 13 and the steadier of 59.0kgs in 1:24.05 coming home in a very slick 34.86.
We have always had an opinion that
PERPLEXITY may be a smart racehorse in the making and he didn’t let his supporters down.
The powerful Chris Waller stable originally had 5 runners in the event however sent 4 around and recorded the quinella with
PERPLEXITY and CHAMPAGNELIFESTYLE running first and second.
When we purchased him as a yearling from the Inglis Classic Sale in 2011 from Guntawang Stud for $72,500 and we always were aware that being by Lonhro from a Danehill mare, the horse would not be an early maturing type and if we were patient we would be rewarded and it appears that predication is coming true.
At his first preparation he wasn’t mature and had two runs both times running seventh but on both runs we could take positives from the events.
This preparation we have a stronger more mature type to deal with and whilst he is still very much a work in progress he continues to delight his trainers and connections.
First up he was the best of good things beaten when running second beaten just 0.3 lengths. He found a fair bit of trouble in that run and it was only over 1200m. Bred to want 1600m – 2000m the horse was only warming up the last 100m.
On Saturday at Kembla, this was just his second start for the preparation and his fourth career run. He left no doubt that the further he goes the better he will be.
Ridden by Grant Buckley, we left the race tactics to the jockey considering how wide we had drawn. We wanted to be positive if possible but didn’t want to get trapped out on a limb 4 or 5 deep without cover so he had the option to go forward or back depending upon the early tempo.
As they jumped the tempo was only average with no pressure being applied for the lead. Grant looked behind him and saw there was no benefit going back in the ruck because he would be trapped deep, so elected to push on towards the leaders.
In a blink the horse accelerated to work over to sit at the girth of the leader.
Travelling here for just 100m another runner zipped around him and the runner on the inside kicked up to hold the fence giving
PERPLEXITY and Grant the perfect trail in third position one back with cover.
The tempo was still only average as they went past the 600m and as the field bunched and started to turn for home, Grant waited a couple of strides and then eased to the outside of the leaders at the top of the straight.
Grant had a lap full of horse under him and at the 350m went up to eyeball the leaders who were both under extreme pressure. Then at the 300m, the jockey let him stride past the leaders before the 250m where he let the brakes off and
PERPLEXITY dashed clear putting a big space in them, before easing down again the final 50m to win softly by 3.8 lengths.
We believe
PERPLEXITY may have some more exciting race wins in him at 1600m and further.
Bred on the highly successful Lonhro / Danehill cross the horse will continue to improve with age and distance. The owners have been patient to date and by doing so, look to be capable of reaping some nice rewards.
Bred to be good,
PERPLEXITY is a ½ brother to 4 other winners including the now three time stakes winner

His dam
SECRET HAZE was a winner of 5 races and she is the grand-daughter of
BISCALOWE – the dam of Stakes Winners
MARAUDING and SPRINGSTEEN.
When we purchased
PERPLEXITY his ½ brother had only won 3 lower class races so the family has continued to strengthen up nicely.
Congratulations to the Dynamic Team of Owners that race PERPLEXITY
