PERPLEXITY (4yo gelding Lonhro ex Secret Haze) gave nothing else a chance when he stormed home from back in 10th position on the turn, to blitz his rivals with a stunning display of stamina when winning race 4 at Canterbury, the Become An ATC Sponsor Hcp (0MW) 1550m.
Easy win on the line for PERPLEXITY
Carrying 56.5kgs and giving the field some dozen lengths start at the 600m, the
Nash Rawiller ride was sensational and the horse responded brilliantly and flew home to give our trainer
CHRIS WALLER yet another city winner.
That was
PERPLEXITY’S 6th career start: 2 wins, 1 second and $40,725.
As a Yearling
Purchased by Dynamic Syndications at the Inglis Classic Sale for $72,500 from Guntawang Stud, the son of Lonhro from the Danehill mare Secret Haze has always shown that with maturity he would develop into a handy middle distance galloper and under the care of Dynamic horseman Chris Waller, the horse is now starting to live up to his potential.
In a race where the speed maps showed there was to be good tempo early,
PERPLEXITY was bustled early by Nash to attempt to hold a mid-field position however the speed was too quick so Nash dropped out of the early pace battle and the horse relaxed beautifully into a good rhythm at the tail of the field.
Not expecting to be more than a dozen lengths off the pace mid race, Nash kept
PERPLEXITY balanced and travelling on the bit like a good stayer in the making. At the 600m the tempo started to increase and Nash was five pairs back last on the fence with a lap of horse and a solid wall in front of him.
Then at the 550m he tried to push out but was checked off the heels of the slowing pair immediately infront. At the 500m Nash pushed his way out 4 deep to the outside and began to chase.
As they turned for home
PERPLEXITY was spotting the second favourite Hawkes trained runner Entirely Platinum some 6 lengths and it was off and gone for the prize but undeterred, Nash balanced
PERPLEXITY and let rip up the centre of the track with giant strides. At the 100m the leader was still 2 lengths in front and going well but such was the speed of our horse’s closing sectionals that he not only collared the leader but went on to post a ½ length by ¾ length win in 1:32.09 which was just 0.27 secs outside the Class Record set back in 2009.
Nash reported to connections he was extremely confident in transit and he thought he was on the winner at the 700m mark. His only concern was to get the horse out off the fence and into clear running – which he did superbly.
Nash Rawiller returns with PERPLEXITY
Chris Waller was full of praise for the horse as well noting that he has a lot of development to do yet on the mental side of racing and what he is doing now is more on raw ability than street smarts. When the penny drops we shall have some fun.
