Last Friday 29 November on the
Kensington track at
Randwick, Dynamic Syndications runner
PERPLEXITY scored a decisive victory in race 3 when ridden by
Hugh Bowman. Trained by
Chris Waller, he was set a herculean task lumping 60.5kgs over 2500m, considering he was backing up in just 6 days, having put in a gut buster at the same track the previous Saturday when finishing runner-up over 2400m.
No doubting the training ability of
Chris Waller with staying horses; he is a class above his peers and has turned
PERPLEXITY into a serious staying prospect.
It's been a marvelous preparation for the
Dynamic Team that race
PERPLEXITY.
At his first preparation as part of a learning curve, he had two starts in maiden company where he ran 7th on both occasions.
Incredibly this iron horse has had
10 starts this prep for
4 wins, 2 seconds, 2 thirds and has earned
$133,450 in prizemoney.
Considering he broke his maiden status at his second run this preparation at Kembla,
PERPLEXITY has then gone onto post wins at
Canterbury, Warwick Farm and now the
Kensington track, along with second placings at
Kensington and
Kembla and third placings at
Kensington and
Warwick Farm.
He just seems to keep getting better with every start, which is exactly how
Chris Waller had anticipated the horse would improve. He still looks a treat despite 10 runs and two tough 2500m trips.
We had not anticipated leading at the previous run however a clever ride by Nash Rawiller that day, took up the initiative and we all but stole the race, with the exception being the stablemate who had the last drop on us. Our horse was a tough runner up.
However on Friday, he was back into his normal racing pattern of settling off the speed where he is a much better chaser than a pace setter.
Mindful of jumping up from 56.0kgs on the Saturday in a Benchmark 78 to 60.5kgs into this event, the
McGrath Tracy Dixon Benchmark 70, 2500m 3yo + ,
Hugh guided
PERPLEXITY across from barrier 9 of 10 to settle one off the fence at the rear of the field. There was more tempo in this event as the field was strung out over a dozen lengths by the mid-way mark.
Hugh allowed
PERPLEXITY to work forward from the 800m to the 600m then approaching the home turn, he eased out to be the widest runner on straightening, mindful that under the big weight, he didn’t want to get a check and loose momentum.
Spotting the runner up Kobi Sun 2.0kgs and a 2 length head start and the third placed Sansui Drawing 6.5kgs,
Hugh kept
PERPLEXITY balanced and the pair dug deep down the outside.
PERPLEXITY got to the front with 100m to travel and wanted to switch off a little but
Hugh kept the horse focused in a strong drive to the line.
PERPLEXITY scored a courageous Neck x Long Neck win in 2:37.54 coming home the last 600m in 35.77. This stands as an
Official Class Record.
Hugh was full of praise for the tough win
PERPLEXITY had unveiled. He gave connections a glowing report as to the toughness of the win and commented that he still did things wrong in the run but would come back in next preparation a far better horse than he will head out.
Statistics show that
PERPLEXITY is well in front of the curve in all measurements. To think he was a maiden to start this preparation and now with
$133,475 in the tin and 4 photos on the wall, he has proven to be an iron horse. The scary aspect is just how much he has improved and how far we have come with him. Knowing there is improvement to come is exciting.
It’s a fact according to the
Australian Racing Board that last year only
379 horses throughout Australia won
4 or more races in a 12 month period gives depth and focus to the job this horse has done.
At this stage,
PERPLEXITY has pulled up in fantastic order and is bucking his brands off and licking out his feed tin. Such is the picture of health the horse is in and how rock hard fit he is, the horse was nominated by the stable this morning to contest another 2500m event at the Kensington track next Saturday. Who knows with the form he is in and the tough fitness under his belt he may finish prominently again.
